Barnabas Collins Coming To The Big Screen In The Form Of Johnny Depp.

Detail from Dark Shadows newspaper comic strip...Image via WikipediaAn April 2011 start date has been announced for the filming of "Dark Shadows," directed by Tim Burton and starring Johnny Depp as the legendary TV soap character Barnabas Collins. Dark Shadows is a gothic soap opera that originally aired weekdays on the ABC television network, from June 27, 1966 to April 2, 1971.
The show had humdrum ratings until the second year when Barnabas Collins was introduced as a vampire. Dark shadows was unique in daytime soaps with it's introduction of not only vampires, but also werewolves, ghosts, zombies, man-made monsters, witches, warlocks, time travel (both into the past and into the future), and a parallel universe. Although considered campy by most who see it now, it still has a huge following among fans.
Depp will portray Barnabas Collins, a vampire living in a Maine manor who is searching for his lost love. Supposedly, Depp was obsessed with the show when he was growing up. Admittedly, so was I. Director Tim Burton as well as Madonna were also huge fans of the show. Wonder if she will be announced as one of the stars in the near future?
