Trailer For "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" Shows Promise.

Slated to be one of next summer's popcorn munching blockbusters, Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer will be bringing us "The Sorcerer's Apprentice", the title being the same as the Mickey Mouse segment in "Fantasia".  While I didn't see any marching mops and mop buckets, I did see a whole heck of a lot of eye-popping special effects.  The film stars Nicholas Cage, doing his best I guess to work his way out of his financial quagmire.

Balthazar Blake (Nicolas Cage) is a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina, aka Doc Ock in Spiderman 2). Balthazar can't do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It'll take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes The Sorcerer's Apprentice.

This film is slated for release on July 16, 2010.  Take a look at the trailer.
