The modern portrayal of Santa Claus frequently...

If you're expecting from the title to see either a Lifetime Christmas movie, an ABC Family Channel Special, or a Hallmark Christmas program, you're going to be surprised because this isn't any of those.

Joe Santa Claus was a Christmas special that aired all the way back in 1951.  And yet, the quality of this print, which comes from the Internet Archive, is pretty good.  Also, the show itself, which until today I had never seen, is well worth watching.

The show aired on the "Gruen Guild Playhouse" and if my memory is correct, Gruen was a watch brand at the time.  Ray Montgomery, Maria Palmer, and Jeri Lou James were the stars of the show.

The plot of the show:

Disgusted that he's been moved from the hardware department to duties as a department store Santa Claus and angry that his wife wants to go to work and earn money, young father Joe Peters deserts his family. While in his Santa role, Joe chances to meet his daughter and discovers what she really wants for Christmas.
