New Courteney Cox Comedy "Cougar Town" Shows Promise.

I really had no intention of even watching this new ABC show. Courteney Cox was never one of my favorite performers on Friends, and just by the title of the show, which implies a relationship between an older woman and a younger man, I knew this wasn't going to be my cup of tea. I had no desire to watch a show based on Ashley and Demi.

But, I was flipping around on Hulu.com, saw it listed and decided to give it a try. Good news folks. Courteney Cox has really hit her stride, much like Julie Dreyfuss on "The New Adventures Of Old Christine, and has scored with what is probably one of the two best comedies to air on ABC in a long time. Remember when ABC ruled the comedy airwaves with TGI Fridays? At any rate, Cox does a great joy on this show and it is very funny. She is willing to run the gamble of showing her non-attractive hollywood look from the very first scene when she stands in front of her bathroom mirror and examines her less than perfect, aging body. To say she is too attractive to play this role is not only wrong, but it also misses the point as to what we each see in our own fallabilities. The writing is excellent, and overall the show works as a great sitcom. If only they hadn't used that lousy title.

You can watch the first episode of "Cougar Town" here, courtesy of ABC and Hulu.com.
