Gran Torino Starring Clint Eastwood - Watch The Trailer Here.

Don't let this movie pass you by.  Watching the trailer for this one you would almost think that Clint Eastwood is playing a retired "Dirty Harry".  Oscar© buzz is already being talked about for this one.  Watch this trailer and decide for yourself.

You're probably wondering what this film is about.  TrailerAddict.com gives this synopsis:

Walt Kowalski is a widower, grumpy, tough-minded, borderline-hateful, unhappy old man who can't get along with either his kids or his neighbors, a Korean War veteran whose prize possession is a 1973 Gran Torino he keeps in cherry condition. When his neighbor Tao, a young Hmong teenager, tries to steal his Gran Torino, Kowalski sets out to reform the youth. Drawn against his will into the life of Tao's family, Kowalski is soon taking steps to protect them form the gangs that foul their neighborhood.

My Bloody Valentine 3D: Prepare To Have The Gore Tossed In Your Face.

This remake of the horror classic comes with a new gimmick - 3D splatter in your face.  Here is the new poster for the film and also the trailer.

IGN.Com gives the following description of the film:

Ten years ago, a tragedy changed the town of Harmony forever. Tom Hanniger, an inexperienced miner, caused an accident in the tunnels that trapped and killed five men and sent the only survivor, Harry Warden, into a permanent coma. But Harry Warden wanted revenge. Exactly one year later, on Valentine’s Day, he woke up…and brutally murdered twenty-two people with his pickaxe before being killed by police. Ten years later, Tom Hanniger returns to Harmony on Valentine’s Day, still haunted by the deaths he caused. Struggling to make amends with his past, he grapples with unresolved feelings for his ex-girlfriend, Sarah, who is now married to his best friend, Axel, the town sheriff. But tonight, after years of peace, something from Harmony’s dark past has returned. Wearing a miner’s mask and armed with a pickaxe, an unstoppable killer is on the loose. And as his footsteps come ever closer, Tom, Sarah and Axel realize in terror that it just might be Harry Warden who’s come back to claim them.

The film comes from Lionsgate and stars Jensen Ackles of "Smallville" and "Supernatural" fame as well as Jaime King of "Sin City" and "The Spirit".

Watchmen: Scream 2008 Trailer - Watch It Here

Winning the award for Most Anticipated Film, here is the trailer for "Watchmen" that was shown during the ceremony.  "Watchmen" is scheduled for release on March 6, 2009.

A Cult Classic: The Toxic Avenger - Watch It Here

It seems that Hulu has gone all out for Halloween with dozens of movies and television episodes that are either horror based or Halloween themed.  One of the movies is the cult classic "The Toxic Avenger", which I have posted here.  Catch it quick as the video may be taken down by Hulu after the holiday.

IMDB.Com gives the following plot for the movie:

This is the story of Melvin, the Tromaville Health Club mop boy, who inadvertently and naively trusts the hedonistic, contemptuous and vain health club members, to the point of accidentally ending up in a vat of toxic waste. The devastating results then have a transmogrification effect, his alter ego is released, and the Toxic Avenger is born, to deadly and comical results. The local mop boy is now the local Superhero, the saviour of corruption, thuggish bullies and indifference. Troma classic with good make-up effects and stunts, a pleasant surprise indeed.

Opie, Andy, And The Fonz Are Alive And Well

It seems that Ron Howard, Andy Griffith, And Henry Winkler want Barack Obama to be their President so much that they filmed this video, returning to the characters they once played so many years ago.  Howard is the spokesman for the video and appears as both Opie and Richie Cunningham.  They made this video for Will Ferrell's Funny or Die web site.

See more Ron Howard videos at Funny or Die
It's called Ron Howard's Call To Action.  I just wonder if the companies that own the rights to these characters gave them permission to play them, although they may have skirted that issue by not actually saying the character's names.

Lighten Up Your Halloween: It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown

Next To A Charlie Brown Christmas, It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown is one of the best classic TV specials ever made.  I thought I would post a couple of clips for you to enjoy.  It seems Warner Bros. has a YouTube page where they post a lot of clips of their DVD releases.  Check it out by clicking here.

And if you want to order it, here are a couple of recommendations for you:

You're kids will love it, and you will too!

Zac Efron Stars As Young Matthew Perry In 17 Again - Watch The Trailer Here.

This film obviously wasn't made to be enjoyed by my generation.  I'm sure the aim for this film is to capture those fans still enraptured by Efron in the High School Musical series.  I am certain those fans will eat this one up, but if Efron wants to make his career last and not just be a teeny idol flash in the pan, he should be eyeing more diverse roles, much like Shia Labeouf.

In this film, Efron plays Matthew Perry, who has been transformed  into a 17 year old in the present day, where he re-enrolls in the high school he attended 20 years ago.  But this time around, his own teenage kids are his peers and his wife is the unsuspecting object of his affection. Can this knowledge help him navigate teen angst while at the same time validate the life choices he has made? Zac Efron stars as the

17-year old Mike and Matthew Perry co-stars as Mike's former self - the 36-year-old husband and father of two.

It seems like this tale has been told in numerous other films.  But, I'm sure the tweeners and young teeners will go for it.  They will get that chance on April 17, 2009.  This film comes from New Line Cinema.

Friday The 13th 2009 - Here Is The Teaser Trailer.

When a series has run it's course but you still want to siphon the moviegoers wallet, what do you do?  Well, you go back and start all over again by remaking the original, hoping it will generate interest for a younger viewer.  And in that spirit New Line Cinema has regenerated the Friday The 13th series by remaking the original Camp Crystal Lake slasher film to be released on February 13, 2009.  Directed by Marcus Nispel, this film, much like the original features a cast of mostly unknowns, including Jared Padalecki, Amanda Righetti, Danielle Panabaker, Travis van Winkle, Aaron Yoo, Jonathan Sadowski, Willa Ford, Derek Mears, and Arlen Escarpeta.

The synopsis of the film, according to IMDB.Com is as follows:

Whitney (Amanda Righetti), Clay (Jared Padalecki), Mike (Nick Mennell), Jenna (Danielle Panabaker), Trent (Travis VanWinkle) and other young adults end up exploring the old Camp Crystal Lake (made famous by the original 1980 film). Soon enough however their seemingly fun weekend turns into a nightmare when each one finds themselves hunted down by a machete wielding maniac known as Jason Voorhees (Derek Mears).

If you have never seen the original, you may enjoy this one.  If you have seen it (I saw it at a drive-in theater in Lucasville, Ohio with my sister) you might enjoy it for the sake of nostalgia.

"Fireball 500" : Annette Funicello & Frankie Avalon Leave The Beach And Hit The Road.

I remember seeing this at the Drive-In (where else for this kind of movie) and liking it pretty well. I don't think I've seen it since that time. It was good to watch it again, thanks to Fancast.com. Now you can enjoy it too, right here at the blog-o-rama.

Directed by William Asher and starring Frankie Avalon, Annette Funicello, Fabian, and Chill Wills, "Fireball 500"  is about stock car racer Dave Owens (Frankie Avalon), who plays into the hands of whiskey runners by agreeing to drive in a cross-country road race. He is assisted by Jane Harris (Annette Funicello) and Sonny Leander Fox (Fabian). Soon Dave and Sonny begin a friendly rivalry for Jane. Chill Wills plays Jane's dad Big Jaw Harris.

Incidentally, for fans of Annette, Walt Disney DVD's is coming out with a collection of episodes featuring the young Mickey Mouse star on November 11.  Preorder and save 8 dollars.  You can click the box above if you want to get straight to the page.fireball500

There is some pretty good stock car footage in this film, and for once Funicello and Avalon aren't chasing after each other on the beach.

The Man From U.N.C.L.E. : The Complete Series

Great Box Set Is Now Available At A Super Price!

One of my all time favorite television series is now available in a super cool boxed set.   The series, which starred Robert Vaughn as Napoleon Solo and David McCallum as Ilya Kuriyakan reflected the paranoia of the Cold War and appeared during the height of the James Bond Spy Movie era.

For the longest time this series was only available through the price gouging Time-Life TV commercials.  But now it is available as an entire set in a cool attache box set.

As Amazon.com says:

It was the height of the Cold War, a time when most Americans had only the vaguest understanding of international espionage. Then, in 1964, the televised spy genre exploded on the screen in the U.S. and around the world when the groundbreaking series The Man From U.N.C.L.E. pulled the covers off of the spy game in what became must-watch television for the next four years on NBC. Here is The Man From U.N.C.L.E.: The Complete Series, beautifully packaged in a 60's style high tech attache‚ case, complete with all episodes along with hours of viewing extras.

And right now at Amazon you can save almost 60 dollars off the retail price.  That's right, for only 140 dollars the entire series is yours.  By the way, anyone in my circle of family and friends, if you read this article, this is the perfect birthday for my upcoming 50th. (Ha Ha Ha).  Take a look at the set for yourself:

Incidentally, the Time-Life website is selling this set now for 200 dollars.  Don't believe me?  Click here and see for yourself.

PlayStation 2 - CALL OF DUTY: WORLD AT WAR – FINAL FRONTS
Developed exclusively for the PlayStationÒ2 computer entertainment system, this game offers a companion experience to Call of Duty: World at War, featuring its own unique set of missions, engagements and challenges that are set within the Pacific and European campaigns through many of the pivotal battles that led to the end of the world’s greatest war.

  • The Pacific Theater: Fighting against a new enemy, the Imperial Japanese, the Americans must learn to deal with their more aggressive fighting techniques such as Banzai Charges, booby traps, and night assaults.
  • New Weapons: Delivering the cinematic intensity and chaos that the franchise is known for, Call of Duty: World at War - Final Fronts challenges players to harness the power of new weapons like the flamethrower – the weapon of choice for fighting in tight and confined spaces.

Three Campaigns: Featuring 13 missions and three campaigns, fight as a member of the 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific, the 6th British Airborne on the banks of the Rhine, or the 80th Infantry in Bastogne. Engage in multiple mission types including infantry, infiltration, sniper, large scale assaults, night fighting, and tank assaults.

Here is what a few of the gaming web sites had to say about the new Call Of Duty:

"If you're looking for a killer app to justify buying that surround sound stereo system for your PC or your television this would certainly qualify, as the audio effects and mixing are superb."

"This is a different depiction of World War II from what we've all previously seen. It's a little more brutal, a little more grisly, and generally more realistic in the way it portrays the horrors of war. It's clear this isn't quite the same World War II we've come to expect."

"Call of Duty: World at War looks truly different. While it’s still a World War II FPS, it has new enemies that react differently and, as Treyarch and their war researchers repeatedly say, entirely different battles."

"Also evident is Treyarch's attempt to make the experience non-linear, offering what seemed like multiple paths to objectives. Aside from some narrow jungle spaces, most of the areas in this World at War demo were wide open, giving the player plenty of choices to get around."

"Using the same engine as Call of Duty 4, World at War looked predictably sharp. Light beams shining through the dense jungle and other whiz-bang explosions were on display. Speaking of that jungle, the soldiers wore camouflage that seemed to blend in even better than Solid Snake, a nice touch."

When "Alf" Met "Gilligan".

I had forgotten all about this episode of "Alf", in which Gordon Shumway (Alf) dreams that he is stranded with the cast of "Gilligan's Island".  This episode, which premiered on September 28, 1987,  is the last time that Denver, Hale, Wells, and Johnson performed together. Hale passed away a few years later, on January 2, 1990.

In the dream sequence, he meets Gilligan (Bob Denver), the Skipper (Alan Hale, Jr.), Mary Ann (Dawn Wells), and the Professor (Russell Johnson). Though their island life looks ideal on-screen, the castaways have been shipwrecked so long that they’re sick to death of all the things that ALF fantasizes about.  The absence of the other castaways is explained by saying that they live on a country club on the other side of the island.

If you enjoyed either show, now you can enjoy them both by watching it here, thanks to Hulu.com.

Gov. Sarah Palin Meets Tina Fey On SNL : Watch It Here

It's great that Hulu.com keeps posting the latest sketches of SNL right after the show appears on NBC.  The much talked about appearance of the real Governor Sarah Palin happened last night during the opening with guest appearances by Mark Wahlberg and Alec Baldwin.

Once again Tina Fey gives a great performance as the Vice Presidential candidate and meets the real Sarah Palin at the end of the sketch.  If you missed it last night, there is no need to search any further online, as the Blog-o-rama has it right here.
