Hey Kids! Time For Some Classic 60's Cartoons!

How About Two Episodes Of Beany And Cecil!
I can honestly say that although I have heard of the show Beany And Cecil through the years, I didn't remember ever seeing it.  When I saw that there were two episodes posted at Archive.Org I thought I would see what it was about since it is considered by many to be a classic.  Well, it turns out that by watching it my memory was refreshed only in that I can remember that as a kid I used to always say the phrase used by Dishonest John, the shows villian.  What was this unforgettable phrase that remained embedded in my memory while the rest of the show was forgotten?  It was "Nyah ah ah!"  To get the full effect, you'll have to watch these two episodes from Archive.Org, which I am embedding here.  One episode is from 1962 and the other is from 1965.  They come complete with commercials and it is the commercials that make the 1965 episode really stand out.  The show, which was shown on ABC, spends it's advertising time with ads for ABC's new fall season.  This was the year in which shows like F Troop, Gidget, The FBI, and others premiered.  And to top everything off, these cartoons are actually still pretty funny.  So sit back, grab a bowl of Cheerios, and enjoy Beany And Cecil.

Beany And Cecil 1962

Beany And Cecil 1965

You can get Beany And Cecil At Amazon, but supplies are extremely limited as it is out of print. Click on this link to take a look:

This description of the DVD comes from the Amazon.Com editorial staff:

Bob Clampett's Beany and Cecil (ABC, 1962-67) ranks among the most beloved cartoon shows of the baby-boom era, and adults and kids will enjoy the 12 shorts in this collection. The animation is extremely limited and the plots are often thin, but neither matter. People watch these cartoons for the strings of wincingly terrible puns, the lively vocal characterizations, and the comic villainy of (nya-ha-ha) Dishonest John. In these selections, Beany, Cecil, and Captain Huffenpuff encounter beatnik artist Go Man Van Go, So What and the Seven Whatnots, and the Singing "Dinasor" (who inhabits the No Bikini Atoll).
The animated Beany was based on Clampett's puppet series "Time for Beany," which began in 1949. The episodes and clips here suggest this program has aged less gracefully. Although it was both a critical and popular success in its day, black-and-white footage of hand puppets is unlikely to hold modern viewers' attention. Much of the disc (over three-and-a-half hours) is devoted to Clampett's long and distinguished film career, including intriguing tests for an animated version of Edgar Rice Burroughs's Mars novels and several never-realized programs, plus home movies, still photos, and an oral history. The material is interesting but viewers would probably prefer more cartoons. --Charles Solomon

Product Description
At last, a fitting tribute to one of the great cartoon teams: Beany, (the precocious boy wearing a propeller cap) and his best pal, Cecil (the seasick sea serpent), on their 50th anniversary in show business! This special edition is also a tribute to Beany and Cecil's creator, Bob Clampett. Formerly a veteran director at the Warner Bros. cartoon studio where he was the father of Tweety Bird and one of the fathers of Bugs Bunny, Clampett set off on his own in the late 1940s with the dream to create what he called "dimensional animation." The result was "Time for Beany." The wild success of the show spawned several other shows, including one about a superhero horse, "Thunderbolt the Wondercolt," and the first puppet variety show, "Willy the Wolf." Bob Clampett's "Beany and Cecil: The Special Edition" will entertain cartoon fans of all ages from the casual viewers that want their kids to see the show they grew up with to the hardcore fans that want to revel in the pop culture of their generation. Jam packed full of over three plus hours of entertainment, including over a dozen of the original "Beany and Cecil" cartoons, plus some of the earliest episodes from "Time for Beany" which have not been seen since their original airing over fifty years ago. New transfers have been made from the original 35mm camera negatives.

Star Trek Has Surprise Premiere In Texas

It seems that three hours before the premiere of STAR TREK in Australia, the producers of the film decided to surprise a theater full of Trek fans in Austin, Texas by showing the film there. Moviegoers thought they were going to see a remastered copy of The Wrath Of Khan, but were told that the film had caught on fire. Enter surprise visitor Leonard Nimoy, who said he just happened to have the new movie with him. Here is a video of what transpired before the film was shown.

New NBC Cop Drama "SouthLAnd". Watch The First Episode Here Before It Premieres.

key_art_southland You only have three days to watch the premiere of "SouthLAnd" online before the actual television broadcast.  Then Hulu.Com will take it down for a while before reposting it.  So watch it while you can.

From the producer of "ER" comes a raw and authentic look at the police unit in Los Angeles. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, "Southland" is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families.

I watched this episode and was riveted enough to finish it in one viewing, something that I usually find hard to do on the computer.  If you go to the Hulu page for this show, you will see where the comments for this show are very positive.  It is a fast paced, riveting show that hopefully will get enough viewers to continue for an extended run.

Remember When TV Stars Did Ads For Their Sponsors?

Back in the fifties and sixties, most television shows were sponsored by one major advertiser.  As part of their deal, the stars of those shows had to do advertisements as their characters, usually shown near the end of the program.  Someone put a compilation of these together and posted them at Archive.Org.  It's a real trip down memory lane for most of us boomers. From The Beverly Hillbillies, Dennis The Menace, The Lone Ranger,  Hogan's Heroes, The Andy Griffith Show,  and many more, you will definitely get a kick out of all of them.  It's rare that us boomers get to enjoy the things we took for granted as kids.   Watch it and enjoy.

I have mentioned them very often in the past, but another plug for Archive.Org, which specializes in Public Domain material, is well deserved.  If you have never been there, you should make it a point to go there and check it out.  There is endless hours of fascinating material there.

For Some Naughtiness, Watch This Trailer For "How To Make Love To A Woman".

This is supposed to be the redband trailer for the movie "How To Make Love To A Woman".  If you think, like me, that you will get to see at least a breast shot in the trailer, you may as well forget it.  With a film that has porn queen Jenna Jameson in it, how could they not?  Well, they don't.  At least they partly make up for it by providing a very funny trailer.

Josh Meyers plays a successful career man who can’t bring his girlfriend, played by Krysten Ritter, to orgasm. The extent to which he goes in order to unlock the mystery of female pleasure is mind-blowing: and trust us, he tries every trick in the book. Does he succeed? And can this wild cast of characters around him, including the world’s most famous adult film star, help … or will they just cause more damage? For anyone who has ever wondered what makes a girl … eh hem … smile, it’s a must-see.

This film will be released on September 10, 2009.

"Powder Blue", With Great Ensemble Cast, Provides An Extremely Interesting Trailer

What an interesting cast!  This film stars Ray Liotta, Kris Kristofferson, Lisa Kudrow, and Patrick Swayze.  And the trailer looks great too.  Watch it for yourself and see.

A city of ten million people, Los Angeles is built on dreams of fame where glitz and glamour dominate the topical landscape. But beneath the tabloid headlines and the flashing cameras lies a city whose people are desperate for an identity, a connection, and a reason to hope…
Charlie Bishop is a former priest who has lost his faith. He finds himself on a mission to free himself struggling with his former religious beliefs and ethics. He loads two bullets into a gun and with fifty thousand dollars in the trunk of his car he roams the streets searching for someone desperate enough to pull the trigger in exchange for the money. Charlie soon learns that his mission may not be so easily fulfilled, even desperate people value life.
On the other side of town, a former hit-man drifts in an out of consciousness on a city bus. Jack Doheny recently released from a twenty-five year stint in prison has just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. In a morphine induced haze he finds comfort and solitude in the freezing waters of the Pacific Ocean before settling a score with an old friend. Knowing that any breath could be his last he sets out to find redemption in an unknown world where the only familiar things are faded mementos of a past love found through a young woman named Rose-Johnny.
Rose-Johnny is a single mother who recently moved to Los Angels with dreams of becoming a star, yet her vision is compromised when her son is seriously injured in an accident. She lives alone in a motel and dances at a gentleman’s club to cover the enormous hospital bills. Her only prayer is that her son will wake up from his coma, and her only comfort is her beloved dog Rudy. One night after another awkward and unsuccessful date, she returns to the motel to find her dog missing. Grief stricken and panicked she roams the streets searching fruitlessly.
Meanwhile, Charlie has moved into the same hotel. One night he encounters Qwerty Doolittle, an eccentric mortician who spends his days helping the less fortunate in times of need. His empathy and charitable tendencies have put him in serious debt and in grave danger of losing his business. With Charlie’s money and gun, Qwerty has a decision to make. But like others before him, Qwerty turns down Charlie’s offer.
Fate will cause these four strangers to cross paths through extraordinary and serendipitous circumstances. Epiphany’s will be had, truths will be revealed, some hearts will shatter and others will heal. Fear will be overcome by courage, and ultimately in one way or the other, love will be found.

Harry Potter's Rupert Grint Stretches His Acting Skills With "Cherrybomb".

cherrybomb Daniel Radcliffe proved he was not just Harry Potter when he appeared on the London Stage and on Broadway in "Equus".  Rupert Grint now proves he is not just Ron Weasley by appearing in Cherrybomb, a movie that arrives this year.

I thought I was going to be watching the trailer for a teen comedy, but after watching the trailer realized I was wrong.

The plot, according to TrailerAddict.Com

With their exams over, best friends Malachy and Luke are out to have one hell of a summer. However, the arrival of Michelle, a captivating but troubled beauty, tests their friendship to the limit as she encourages the two boys to carry out increasingly dangerous and illegal deeds in the battle for her affections – with fatal consequences.

No release date has been set for the film.  I wonder when Emma Watson is going to prove she's not just Hermione Grainger, and I don't count the below film, Ballet Shoes to be in the category of stretching her wings as it is  a children's film like the Potter films.  I want to see her in something more grown up, like the Grint and Radcliffe efforts.

New Poster For Robert Downey Jr. Film "Sherlock Holmes"

Set in 1891, the film revolves around Holmes and Watson stopping a conspiracy to destroy Britain. The film opens with Holmes apprehending the murderous cult leader Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong), who promises he will return from the dead and exact his revenge as he is being led to the gallows.  If Downey Jr. gives half the performance he gave in Iron Man, it will still be a great movie.  I can't help but think this is going to be a box office winner.

Along with Robert Downey Jr., The film also stars Jude Law and Rachel McAdams and is slated to open on Christmas Day.  The video below is a visit by Entertainment Tonight on the set of the film.
