The Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas is hoping to add a new attraction on its observation deck for the ultimate thrill seeker.
It’s called Sky Jump and it’s more like bungee jumping than a ride. The attraction’s Web site describes Sky Jump as “base jumping while attached to a wire. - just like a movie stuntman. You’ll fall very fast (approximately 85kph) for around 11 seconds, and then come to a very smooth landing in the plaza below.
In New Zealand, a similar attraction at the Sky City Tower in Auckland features an 11-second free fall of 629 feet. The observation tower at the Stratosphere is somewhere in the neighborhood of 1000 feet.
American Casinos & Entertainment, which owns the Stratosphere, said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday that $3.6 million of its $22 million 2010 capital expenditure budget would be allocated for the Sky Jump.
A spokesman for the Stratosphere said the property plans to make an official announcement on the attraction early next year, pending approval from the proper entities.
Now, I don't know how brave you are, but just the very thought of this sends shivers up my spine. So far I have been on all of the Stratosphere's rides, but I can guarantee my niece Toni that on this ride she will be flying solo.
