Mousketeer Cheryl Holdridge Dies At 64

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

After a long battle with lung cancer, one time Mousketeer Cheryl Holdridge passed away Tuesday at her Santa Monica home. She became a Mouseketeer in 1956 at the start of the second season of "The Mickey Mouse Club". Her death was reported to the Los Angeles Times by Doreen Tracey, another former Mouseketeer.

In addition to "The Mickey Mouse Club", Holdridge played Wally Cleaver’s girlfriend for two seasons in “Leave It to Beaver,” and had guest roles on shows such as “Bewitched” and “The Dick Van Dyke Show.”

You can read a great biography about Cheryl as well as viewing more photos of the Mousketeer with the "Million Dollar Smile", at a website called "The Original Mickey Mouse Club Show" by clicking here.

In this look back at "The Mickey Mouse Club", movie critic Gene Siskel tells how Cheryl, not Annette was his favorite Mouseketeer, and why. Also, at about 2:38 into the video you can see Cheryl and the gang doing their Meeska-mooska-mousketeer, in which they introduce that day's cartoon.

Also, in this next video you can see Cheryl in one of the Mouseketeer Roll Calls where they sing, dance, and introduce themselves.

Wes Craven Revisits "The Last House On The Left". Watch The Trailer.

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

I have to admit that even though the original is considered a classic I have never seen it. So to my advantage, whatever is old about the remake will still be new to me.

TrailerAddict.Com provided the following description about the film:

Masters of horror Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham revisit their landmark film that launched Craven’s directing career and influenced decades of horror films to follow: The Last House on the Left. Bringing one of the most notorious thrillers of all time to a new generation, they produce the story that explores how far two ordinary people will go to exact revenge on the sociopaths who harmed their child.

The night she arrives at the remote Collingwood lakehouse, Mari (Sara Paxton) and her friend are kidnapped by a prison escapee and his crew. Terrified and left for dead, Mari’s only hope is to make it back to parents John and Emma (Tony Goldwyn and Monica Potter). Unfortunately, her attackers unknowingly seek shelter at the one place she could be safe. And when her family learns the horrifying story, they will make three strangers curse the day they came to The Last House on the Left.

While you are waiting for the movie to come out, watch this documentary about the making of the original.

...Of The Dead. George Romero's Newest Zombie Flick. Watch The Trailer.

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

I guess that after Night, Dawn, and Day of the dead, the best title George Romero could come up with was this one: "...Of The Dead". Does that mean finish your own title? According to Trailer Addict this is the plot for the new movie:

On a small island off North America's coast, the dead rise to menace the living. Yet...the islanders can't bring themselves to exterminate their loved ones, despite the growing danger from those the once held dear. A rebel among them hunts down all the zombies he can find, only to be banished from the island for assassinating his neighbors and friends. On the mainland, bent on revenge, he encounters a small band of survivors in search of an oasis on which to build a new life. Barely surviving an attack from a mass of ravenous flesh-eaters. They commandeer a zombie-infested ferry and sail to the island. There, to their horror, they discover that the locals have chained the dead inside their homes, pretending to live 'normal' lives...with bloody consequences. What ensues is a desperate struggle for survival and the answer to a question never posed in Romero's Dead films: Can the living ever live in peace with the dead?

Longtime Character Actor Pat Hingle Dies At 84

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

Family friend Michele Seidman says Hingle died at his home in Carolina Beach shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday. Seidman says he decided to settle in the coastal town after shooting the movie "Maximum Overdrive" in the area in 1986. He lived there for more than 15 years [and] had battled multiple health problems over the last several years.

One of only two actors to appear in all of the first four Batman movies. The other was actor Michael Gough who played Alfred.

Was nominated for Broadway's 1958 Tony Award as best supporting or featured actor (dramatic) for "The Dark at the Top of the Stairs.".

In his last appearance as Commissioner Gordon in the Batman series, he worked with Uma Thurman, whose first husband, Gary Oldman, succeeded him in the role in Batman Begins (2005).

The Ramen Girl: I Feel Ashamed.

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

After watching this international trailer for "The Ramen Girl", starring Brittany Murphy, I feel ashamed of the fact that probably the only ramen noodles I have ever eaten are the cup o' noodles you buy at a grocery store. Who knew that this noodle soup could have so much meaning?

Synopsis:
Abruptly abandoned by her boyfriend, a young American woman (Murphy) finds herself suddenly alone and adrift in Tokyo. Lost in the shuffle of a foreign culture, and seeking to console herself, Abby winds up hanging out in her neighborhood ramen shop. After observing the magical effects of the shop's ramen on the customers, Abby convinces herself that her true path in life is to become a ramen chef. Abby persuades the shop's tyrannical, temperamental Japanese master chef to teach her the art of making ramen. And although their relationship is contentious and rocky, they both discover the most important ingredient of all - that each ramen bowl must contain a universe of feeling and truly be a gift from the heart.

A rather nice, sentimental, mellow song performed by Jamie Cullum. I will be glad when this movie gets a national release.

Classic Theater Hour: "My Little Chickadee"

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

In reality, this movie is an hour and 23 minutes, but it is still a classic. The movie that paired W.C. Fields with Mae West is a hoot.

Rightly suspected of illicit relations with the Masked Bandit, Flower Belle Lee is run out of Little Bend. On the train she meets con man Cuthbert J. Twillie and pretends to marry him for "respectability." Arrived in Greasewood City with his unkissed bride, Twillie is named sheriff by town boss Jeff Badger...with an ulterior motive. Meanwhile, both stars inimitably display their specialties, as Twillie tends bar and plays cards, and Flower Belle tames the town's rowdy schoolboys.

Look for Margaret Hamilton who played The Wicked Witch Of The West in "The Wizard Of Oz", as Mrs. Gideon in this film.

West reportedly wrote the original screenplay, with Fields contributing one extended scene set in a bar. Universal decided to give the stars equal screenplay credit, perhaps to avoid the appearance of favoritism, but the move incensed West, who declined to re-team with Fields afterwards. The stars spoofed themselves and the Western genre, with West providing a series of her trademark double entendres.

"They Came From Upstairs", A Happy Mix Of E.T. And Gremlins. Well, Sort Of.

At Left: Cast From "They Came From Upstairs".

With a cute alien and some meany aliens, "They Came From Upstairs" is a comedy for the younger set. Advertised as "From The Studio That Brought You Alvin And The Chipmunks", the film uses live actors as the humans and CGI created characters as the aliens.

Trailer Addict gives the following plot description:

A group of children attempt to defend their Maine vacation home from invading extraterrestrial forces as the malevolent aliens make their way from the upper floor of the house to the ground level. First-time feature filmmaker Thor Freudenthal directs a script penned by British scribe Mark Burton (Wallace & Gromit). High School Musicals Ashley Tisdale stars in the 20th Century Fox production, with Tim Meadows and Gillian Vigman filling out the rest of the cast.

With Ashley Tisdale in the movie and cute little cartoon-like aliens, prepare yourself to be dragged to the movie theater by your young 'uns on February 13, 2009.

Step aside Hannah Montana. It's time for the Jonas Brothers chance at big screen concert stardom. On February 27, "Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience" hits the big screen. This is another one of those must see films for the tween set and even younger as fans of this handsome young trio go crazy for them. You'll witness that yourself in this trailer. I couldn't help but think of the Beatles fans when the Fab Four first hit the U.S.A. The film comes from Walt Disney Pictures and was directed by Bruce Hendricks.

Blackploitation Returns In "Black Dynamite"

Black action movies such as Shaft and Superfly helped coined the phrase "blackploitation" back in the seventies.  Returning to the screen as a tribute to these movies is "Black Dynamite".

This is the story of 1970’s action legend Black Dynamite. When “The Man” murders his brother, pumps heroin into local orphanages, and floods the ghetto with adulterated malt liquor, Black Dynamite is the one hero willing to fight all the way from the blood-soaked city streets to the hallowed halls of the Honky House.

The following is the redband trailer for the movie and should not be seen by anyone under 17.

This next trailer is approved for all audiences.

And finally, here is a clip from the movie.  Black Dynamite (Michael Jai White) comes face to face with Fiendish Dr. Wu (Roger Yuan) and his kung fu treachery. Bullhorn (Byron Minns) decides he can take them until his head is chopped off. Then a great fight sequence ensues.

Crank 2: High Voltage I Thought He Died In The First Movie.

Jason Statham returns in Crank 2: High Voltage a sequel to the action-packed original.  This one looks like it is even more over the top.  This is the early redband trailer for the movie which is due to be released in April.
