Watchmen: New Feature Trailer.

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

This one definitely looks like an explosive movie. This new trailer shows way more than previous ones and for those not in the know about the plot, shows enough that the movie now makes sense.

A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity...but who is watching the Watchmen?

Star Trek: Where To See The Trailer Online

Member of the Boxxet Network of Blogs, Videos and Photos

The new Star Trek trailer was supposed to premiere at the opening of Quantum of Solace. Reports are that it was an optional trailer and you may or may not see it if you go to the theaters. Here is an option for those that got cheated.
I was going to post the video online but decided to wait until it is officially released tomorrow by Paramount. However, if you just can't wait, click here to see an exceptional bootleg copy.
But hurry, because chances are, by this afternoon or tonight, it may be already down. Check back on Monday, the seventeenth for the official release.

Wayan Brothers "Dance Flick" Trailer Another Movie Genre Spoof Only This One Appears To Be Funny.

There have been quite a few duds in the movie department when it comes to spoofing genres.  Not much out there to compare with the original "Airplane".  Look at how quickly such films as Disaster Movie, Epic Movie, and others have tanked.  Most of them were just not funny.

Now it looks like a winner may have come along, judging by this new trailer for the Wayan Brothers "Dance Flick" which opens on February 6, 2009.  The film is about a rich, suburban white girl named Tracy Transfat (Chelsea Makela) who gets into a series of misadventures when she moves to the inner-city.  Hilarity ensues.   Watch the trailer and judge for yourself.

New Christmas Trailer For "The Spirit".

Even if the movie doesn't tickle your fancy, perhaps the thundering Christmas music in this new short trailer for "The Spirit" will.  Frank Miller's "The Spirit", based on the comics by Will Eisner will open in theaters on December 25, 2008.

I initially didn't care for the original trailers that came out, but will admit that the movie is now starting to grow on me.  Will just have to wait and see.

Adapted from the legendary Will Eisner's graphic novels, The Spirit tells the visceral, action-packed story of a man who fakes his own death and fights crime from the shadows of Central City. The Octopus -- who kills anyone unfortunate enough to see his face -- has a different mission: he's going to wipe out the entire city. The Spirit tracks this cold-hearted killer from Central City's rundown warehouses, to the damp catacombs, to the windswept waterfront...

all the while facing a bevy of beautiful women who either want to seduce, love or kill our masked crusader. In the vein of "Batman Begins" and Sin City, The Spirit takes us on a sinister, gut-wrenching ride of a hero who is born, murdered and born again.

"2012": Teaser Trailer For New Disaster Movie By "Independence Day" Producer Roland Emmerich

With the Mayan calendar ending in 2012, a large group of people must deal with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers.

Never before has a date in history been so significant to so many cultures, so many religions, scientists, and governments. 2012 is an epic adventure about a global cataclysm that brings an end to the world and tells of the heroic struggle of the survivors.

Stories about this have been widespread in the media including a story at ABC.Com.  Click here to read it.  Whether true or not, it does make for a good hook to a disaster-end of the world-prophecy movie.

The cast includes Thandie Newton (Pictured above), John Cusack and Amanda Peet.  The reportedly 200 million dollar special effects extravaganza is scheduled for release on July 10, 2009.

Watch the trailer and let me know what you think about it.

"Fringe" Back After Two Week Vacation: Watch "In Which We Meet Mr. Jones" Here.

Episode 7 of "Fringe does not disappoint!

When a mysterious parasite attacks a dying FBI agent’s body, Dunham rushes to Germany to meet an prisoner, with some disconcerting details.

As you can see from the freeze frame on the video screen, "Fringe" returns with another of their gory, creepy episodes.

And the two weeks off hasn't changed anything.  It's still my favorite show.

Fringe is shown Tuesday nights at 9 on FOX.  Check your local listings.

International Trailer For "The Day The Earth Stood Still

What looks to be a holiday blockbuster, this revamp of the science fiction classic starring Keanu Reeves, looks better and better with each new trailer.  Certainly it has more pizzazz than Steven Spielberg's "War Of The Worlds" And Will Smith's "I Am Legend".

The Day the Earth Stood Still is 20th Century Fox's contemporary reinvention of its 1951 classic. Keanu Reeves portrays Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval. As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery behind the visitor's appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission – and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described "friend to the Earth."

Watch the trailer and make your own conclusions about the film.

Here also is a featurette that was released in Taiwan.

"Crossing Over" Trailer Features Harrison Ford, Jim Sturgess, And Ray Liotta

From what I can tell of the trailer, I think this film is supposed to show support for illegal aliens.  It smells of controversy and perhaps the kind of film that Oscar® voters love.  It will open (my guess would be in limited release) on December 3, 2008.

Immigrants from around the world enter Los Angeles every day, with hopeful visions of a better life, but little notion of what that life may cost. Their desperate scenarios test the humanity of immigration enforcement officers. In Crossing Over, writer-director Wayne Kramer explores the allure of the American dream, and the reality that immigrants find – and create -- in 21st century L.A.

Kramer's intersecting stories, both cathartic and tragic, are brought to life by an international ensemble. The film stars Academy Award® nominee HARRISON FORD, Academy Award® winner SEAN PENN, RAY LIOTTA, ASHLEY JUDD, CLIFF CURTIS, JIM STURGESS, ALICE EVE, ALICE BRAGA, JUSTIN CHON and SUMMER BISHIL.

New Walt Disney Treasures: Dr. Syn, Annette, And Donald

I have been collecting the Walt Disney Treasures series since they first began releasing them several years ago.  Always presented in a collector's tin, these DVD's have always presented some of the most interesting material that Disney rarely releases or in some cases have never released.

Along with the collections, of Mickey, Donald, Goofy and Pluto cartoons, have been some of the best episodes from the Disney TV shows, the Mickey Mouse Club (including sets of the entire Spin And Marty serial, as well as The Hardy Boys), and occasionally include movies that have never seen the light of day since their release.  Even the cartoon treasures, in their "From The Vault" extras have included cartoons that are no longer shown because of their controversial nature.

Now there are three more Treasures to add to your collection (and mine).  They include:  Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald, Vol. 4 - 1951-1961, Walt Disney Treasures: The Mickey Mouse Club Presents Annette - 1957-1958 Season, and the one that according to IFilm.com is one of the most anticipated titles of 2008, Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh.

Originally airing in three parts on "Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color," Dr. Syn stars Patrick McGoohan as Dr. Syn, a kindly country vicar in 18th-century England. Only a few know that Syn is also the masked Scarecrow, notorious leader of a band of smugglers, who defends the villagers from unjust taxes and oppression by King George III's men. George Cole, Michael Hordern, Sean Scully also star. The three-part movie was also edited into a single feature length attraction to be distributed theatrically overseas.  Both versions are included on the DVD's.

Everybody's favorite Mouseketeer, Annette Funicello is given her own special volume of Disney Treasures as well.  To legions of Mickey Mouse Club fans she was magic. Chosen by Walt himself as an original cast member, Annette soon became the most popular Mousketeer and was given a daily series of her own. Showcased here is the entire fish-out-of-water series, about an innocent girl from the country who moves to the suburbs to live with her well-to-do aunt and uncle. Airing during the third and final season of The Mickey Mouse Club, the 20-episode series was unlike earlier series -- it featured original music including the song that helped launch Annette's music career. Enriching this celebration of Annette are the two complete Mickey Mouse Club episodes that introduced and concluded the series, plus a new tribute to her remarkable career and more. Featuring exclusive introductions by film historian Leonard Maltin, this is a timeless collection from generations past for generations to come.

Bonus features include:
* "Musically Yours, Annette" - From a 1992 interview, Annette recalls her career as a recording star and her years on "The Mickey Mouse Club." Also includes interviews with Annette's fellow teen idols Paul Anka, Frankie Avalon, and Fabian. It is touching to see how Annette stayed unspoiled and natural, even in her contemporary interview segments. The admiration from her coworkers is also evident. The Sherman Brothers practically glow when they speak of her, and her record producer Tutti Camarata explains how "The Annette Sound" was created by overdubbing her vocals.
* "To Annette, With Love" - Is a newly produced tribute that has interviews with many of the same people as the other featurette. It is extremely touching to see Annette's reverence for Walt Disney and appreciation of him and how he guided her career. There is no artifice or canned emotion with her. Interview clips include her mother, Tutti, Shelley Fabares, and more.
* The Mickey Mouse Club - The complete first and last episodes of the popular television program that featured the "Annette" serial where were broadcast between February 11, 1958 and March 7, 1958.
This set also includes a Certificate of Authenticity (set limited to 39,500 copies) as well as a postcard size publicity photo of Annette from this serial. There is also the usual introductory booklet with a table of contents. A very nice set that will appeal to Annette's fans.

Skeptics have said that Disney is just putting this out because fans who still have an interest in her will be eager to have a copy because she is in poor health and may not be around much longer.  I think it is because they know how much fans have been wanting this.

The final new Treasure release is a fourth volume of Donald Duck cartoons.  In this final volume, Donald's solo-starring shorts wraps up with some of his rarely seen adventures from 1951 through 1961. And, for the first time on DVD, Donald's CinemaScope cartoons are presented in their original widescreen format. This collection of classics includes two of Donald's Academy Awardr nominated Best Shorts -- "Rugged Bear" (1953) and "No Hunting" (1955); a retrospective of Donald's career in comic books; and a storyboard presentation for an unproduced Donald Duck cartoon pitched by famed Disney animator Eric Goldberg. From bit player to superstar, Donald gave voice to the frustrations of everyone and in the process endeared himself to the world.

The collection of shorts on this release are pretty extensive.  According to a post on Amazon.com by Paul J Mular, they are as follows:

The Flaming Lips "Christmas On Mars" Now Available On DVD

If you are a fan of "The Flaming Lips", and even if you're not, you may enjoy this rather eclectic sort of film, which you can now get on DVD.

Psychedelic rock band the Flaming Lips present Christmas on Mars: A Fantastical Film Freakout Featuring the Flaming Lips, a glorious science fiction film that marks the directorial debut of the Lips' visionary frontman Wayne Coyne.

Seven years in the making, Christmas on Mars features original music by the Flaming Lips with acting performances by all band members, and many others from their Oklahoma City-based team. Comedian Fred Armisen (Saturday Night Live) and actor Adam Goldberg (Dazed and Confused, Two Days in Paris) also appear.

It's Christmastime, and the colonization of Mars is underway. However, when an oxygen generator and a gravity control pod malfunction, Major Syrtis (the Lips' Steven Drozd) and his team (including the Lips' Michael Ivins) fear the worst. Syrtis also hallucinates about the birth of a baby, and many other strange things. Meanwhile, a compassionate alien superbeing (Coyne) arrives, inspiring and helping the isolated astronauts.

You've got to admit, this is one tripped out trailer, as is the film if you decide to buy it.

Will Smith's Son "Jaden" To Star In Karate Kid Remake

According to Variety.Com, Jaden Smith, son of actor Will Smith will star in the Columbia Pictures reboot of "The Karate Kid", the 1984 film that launched Ralph Macchio into fame as "The Kid", along with Pat Morita as "Mr. Miyagi".

Jerry Weintraub, who produced the original film returns for the remake, along with James Lassiter, Will Smith, and Ken Stovitz.

The new film will be written by Chris Murphy and will shoot next year in Beijing and other cities. Even though it is set in China, the movie is supposed to include elements of the original movie.
Jaden Smith, who next appears in "The Day The Earth Stood Still" (yet another remake) supposedly practices martial arts. Since the original "Kid" was a teenager, and Smith is currently 10 years old, I'm assuming the romance in the original film will not be in the new version.

Joe Johnston To Helm "Captain America"

Joe Johnston has signed on to direct "First Avenger: Captain America," the current title of Marvel Studios take on it's classic comic book character.

The studio has not yet signed on any writers, but is expected to do so shortly.

Marvel and Johnston met two years ago, and when the two parties clicked, general talks revolved around Captain America.  Much of the project's current direction came as a  result of those early conversations.

The character's last appearance was in 1990's "Captain America," a cheap production from 21st Century Films that ended up going to straight to video. That movie starred Matt Salinger as the hero in modern times fighting his enemy, the Red Skull.

Joe Johnston has worked on the production team of films such as "Star Wars",  "Raiders Of The Lost Ark",  "The Rocketeer", "October Sky", and the current remake of "The Wolfman".

Oh Rats! It's The Movie "The Rats". I Hate Rats (The Rodents, Not The Movie).

In New York City it is estimated that there are an alarming nine rats for every human being... and the rodent population continues to grow. THE RATS imagines what would happen if the rodent population were to overrun the city itself, when a colony of vermin take over a posh Manhattan department store. When a female shopper is hospitalized after seemingly cutting her hand in a department store dressing room, the store's public relations executive, Susan Costello, quickly learns that the shopper's mysterious illness was caused by a bite from a diseased rat. In a search for answers, Susan enlists the help of the city's top exterminator, Jack Carver. Susan and Jack try to get to the root of the problem, but they find themselves tangled up in bureaucratic red tape, as health officials deny evidence of a rodent infestation, in fear of losing much-needed tourism dollars. Meanwhile, the rat population is spiraling out of control, and packs of wild rats are fleeing their underground enclaves and terrorizing the public.  This is supposed to be a horror thriller.  Since it takes place during the holidays, I prefer to think of it as a Christmas movie.

From Hulu.Com, here is "Rats".

The Tale of Despereaux: Title Sounds Like A Dud. Trailer Looks Like A Winner.

I thought that the trailer for this film, after I finally decided to watch it, was really good.  The stars in this film, plus the fact that it comes from a bestselling children's book, gives it a pretty high pedigree.  Not only that but it looks like a lot of fun.

The tale of three unlikely heroes - a misfit mouse who prefers reading books to eating them, an unhappy rat who schemes to leave the darkness of the dungeon, and a bumbling servant girl with cauliflower ears - whose fates are intertwined with that of the castle's princess.

You can enjoy this film on December 19, 2008.  Judge for yourself.  Here's the trailer:

Baz Luhrmann's "Australia" Here's The Full Length Trailer.

Australia is an epic and romantic action adventure, set in that country on the explosive brink of World War II. In it, an English aristocrat (Nicole Kidman) travels to the faraway continent, where she meets a rough-hewn local (Hugh Jackman) and reluctantly agrees to join forces with him to save the land she inherited. Together, they embark upon a transforming journey across hundreds of miles of the world's most beautiful yet unforgiving terrain, only to still face the bombing of the city of Darwin by the Japanese forces that attacked Pearl Harbor. With his new film, Luhrmann is painting on a vast canvas, creating a cinematic experience that brings together romance, drama, adventure and spectacle.

I don't know about you but I'm really looking forward to sitting down and watching a grand spectacle of a movie like "Australia".  This trailer only reinforces that thought.   "Australia" will open in theaters on November 26, 2008.

Watch this trailer and decide for yourself.

Monster Vs. Aliens: 3D Hit For Dreamworks? Here's The Trailer.

When California girl Susan Murphy is unexpectedly clobbered by a meteor full of outer space gunk, she mysteriously grows to 49-feet-11-inches tall and is instantly labeled a "monster" named Ginormica. The military jumps into action, and she is captured and held in a secret government compound. The world learns that the military has been quietly rounding up other monsters over the years. This ragtag group consists of the brilliant but insect-headed Dr. Cockroach, Ph.D.; the macho half-ape, half-fish The Missing Link; the gelatinous and indestructible B.O.B.; and the 350-foot grub called Insectosaurus. Their confinement time is cut short however, when a mysterious alien robot lands on Earth and begins storming the country.

As a last resort, under the guidance of General W.R. Monger (on a desperate order from The President), the motley crew of Monsters is called into action to combat the aliens and save the world from imminent destruction.

Monsters vs. Aliens is directed by Rob Letterman and Conrad Vernon, produced by Lisa Stewart and co-produced by Jill Hopper and Latifa Ouaou. The film marks the theatrical debut of DreamWorks Animation's Ultimate 3-D, the studio's proprietary production process of authoring its animated films in 3-D from start to finish.  It will open in theaters on March 27, 2009.

This film looks pretty entertaining and for fans of sci-fi movies from the 1950's,  they should get a kick out of the creatures portrayed in the movie.

Here's the trailer.  Judge for yourself.

Steve Martin Gets Pink In "Pink Panther 2". Here's The Trailer.

Inspector Jacques Clouseau (Steve Martin) teams up with a squad of International detectives who are just as bumbling as he is. Their mission:  Stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historical artifacts.

I know a lot of Panther purists are totally against these new Panther movies, but I think Martin does a pretty decent job in recreating the slapstick role created by Peter Sellers.

Panther 2 opens in theaters on February 6, 2009. Here is the trailer.  Judge for yourself.

Soar With Disney/Pixar's "Up". Here's The Trailer

In this "coming of old age" story, a seventy-something hero, alongside his clueless wilderness ranger sidekick, travels the globe, fighting beasts and villains, and eating dinner at 3:30 in the afternoon.  "Up" will open on May 29, 2009.

It seems rather strange that Pixar has chosen a grumpy old geezer as the star of their next movie.  But then of course, who doesn't remember "The Muppets" Statler and Waldorf up in the balcony?  And of course, showing it in 3D is always a plus.  Judging by this trailer, I think it will work.  Judge for yourself.
