My Mother The Car - The Blog-o-Rama Christmas Show A Day.

My Mother the Car

Many Happy No- Returns

Time to kick off this year's version of riesen2b's blog-o-rama Christmas show a day which began last year.  And we kick it off with one of the most joked at, berated, derided and skewered television shows of all time.  By the way, all of the vicious criticism on this quaint, funny show was way overboard.

I'm talking of course about the Ann Sothern, Jerry Van Dyke comedy, "My Mother The Car".  Making it's debut on September 14, 1965, this show was about the Mother of Jerry Van Dyke's character, being reincarnated as a 1928 Porter automobile (incidentally, there was no such brand) to offer him advice and at the same time putting him in various predicaments.   It ran for only one season on NBC and is now the stuff of television folklore.  Even in 2002 the show was put down by TV Guide which rated it the second worst show ever to air, after The Jerry Springer Show.

The fact remains though, that for most kids from that era, this was a great show and many were disappointed when it was canceled.  It now has somewhat of a cult following.

Wikipedia.com gives this synopsis of the show:

The show follows the exploits of attorney David Crabtree (played by Jerry Van Dyke), who, while shopping at a used car lot for a station wagon to serve as a second family car, instead purchases a dilapidated 1928 "Porter" touring car. Crabtree heard the car call his name in a woman's voice which turned out to be that of his deceased mother, Gladys (voiced by Ann Sothern). The car, a valuable antique, is a reincarnation of his mother who talks (only to Crabtree, of course) through the car's radio. The dial light flashed in sequence with "Mother's" voice. In an effort to get his family to accept the old, tired car, Crabtree brings it to a custom body shop for a full restoration, which in turn brings it to the attention of a rather shifty car collector.

For the rest of the series, Crabtree is pursued by the avaricious Captain Manzini (Avery Schreiber), who is determined to acquire the valuable automobile from Crabtree. In a running gag characterizing his shifty nature, Manzini (who resembles a 1920s silent film villain) always mispronounces Crabtree's name when speaking to him. "Now, then, Crabapple..." "That's Crabtree." "Whatever."

The plot of this episode finds that Mother is furious when she learns that Dave intends to let Barbara choose her own Christmas present.

So here it is, the Christmas episode of "My Mother The Car"  My Mother The Car is not available on DVD although the owners of this show could make a killing by releasing it.  However, uou can watch the entire series at Hulu.Com by clicking here.

ABC News Cancels Adam Lambert Gig On Good Morning America.

American Idol finalist Adam Lambert at Mt. Car...

Image via Wikipedia

Did you turn in to ABC's Good Morning America this morning to see Adam Lambert perform?  Did you sit through the entire show waiting, only to realize the American Idol runner up from last season was not making an appearance as had been scheduled?  Are the executives in charge of news programs at ABC a bunch of homophobes?

Turns out the executives for ABC News got cold feet after Lambert's bold, sexually provocative performance on the American Music Awards Sunday night.  They felt that too many young children would be watching early in the morning.  I say, who are they kidding?  Most kids I know are watching anything other than Good Morning America while eating their Cocoa Puffs.

CBS proved that they aren't too shy to have Adam on and have scheduled him for The Early Show to discuss his performance, his GMA cancellation, and also to perform.

ABC denies that their parent company, Walt Disney Co. had any say in the matter.  I would guess that is true.  But I also think their towering influence as owners of ABC leads executives of the broadcasting company to make decisions based on who owns them.

Thumbs up to CBS.

Family Ties - The Blog-o-Rama Thanksgiving Show A Day.

Family Ties title scene from the third season

Image via Wikipedia

No Nukes Is Good Nukes.

I know, this is a strange title for a Thanksgiving episode.  But, that's what this is.

Family Ties is a sitcom starring Michael J. Fox that aired on NBC from 1982-89. The show also starred Michael Gross, Meredith Baxter Birney, Justine Bateman, and Tina Yothers.  The basic joke that ran throughout the series was that Fox was a conservative Republican while his parents were left wing liberals.

The title of this episode makes sense when you read the plot:  Steven and Elyse are arrested on Thanksgiving when protesting nuclear arms. Alex is pro-nuclear weapons, though Jennifer's questions shake his reasoning. Mallory just wishes someone else could do the protesting and leave their family peace. Steven and Elyse are given a chance to leave prison if they sign a document promising never to protest and swearing they support the arms race. They refuse it.

Watch a Family Ties Thanksgiving and enjoy!

Adam Lambert Too Hot For ABC AMA Awards Viewers.

LOS ANGELES, CA - MAY 20: (L-R) Finalist cont...

Image by Getty Images via Daylife

ABC is reporting that  more than 1,500 people have called to complain about Adam Lambert's over-the-top, sexually energized performance at the AMA's on Sunday night.  Seems the androgynous Lambert was too much for the puritan television viewers, although

ABC described the response as being moderate.

Lambert had stated before the show that he wanted to break down a double standard that existed where female performers are often sexually provocative while men don't do it that often.

The hostile comments crept up online about the "American Idol" glam rocker who sang his new song "For Your Entertainment" on Sunday's show, which had a decidely elaborate, S&M-theme. During the song, Lambert fondled a dancer, led another around on a leash, had a dancer briefly stick his head in Lambert's crotch and kissed a man.

Watch the video below and decide for yourself.  Is it too much?

You know what they say, controversy sells and that is probably Lambert's intention with this performance was all along.

Oh yeah, and one little side note about the awards.  On the west coast broadcast, which is taped, J-Lo's fall during her performance was edited out--poorly.   Without seeing the live broadcast you could tell exactly where they made the edit.

"The Last Song", starring Miley Cyrus - Here is the Trailer.

Miley Cyrus with her dog, Roadie

Image via Wikipedia

Here is a film I know all of my younger readers and also fans of Nicholas Sparks are looking forward to. This film will be released on April 10, 2010.

The Last Song is an upcoming  film starring Miley Cyrus and directed by Julie Anne Robinson. Nicholas Sparks was approached to write both the film's screenplay and the novel by the same name. Sparks completed the screenplay in January 2009, prior to the completion of the novel.

The film also stars Greg Kinnear,  Kelly Preston, and Liam Hemsworth.

Here is the plot:

At seventeen, Veronica "Ronnie" Miller remains as rebellious and distant as she was the day after her parents' ugly divorce and father's subsequent relocation to Georgia. Once a classical piano prodigy under the tutelage of her father, Steve, Ronnie now rejects the instrument in favor of partying with her friends and has not spoken to her father since he left. Although Ronnie has been accepted to Juilliard School, she refuses to attend.

Now, Steve is given the chance to reconnect with his estranged daughter when her mother, Kim, sends the rebellious teen and her younger brother, Jonah, to spend the summer with him. Steve, a former Juilliard professor and concert pianist, now lives a quiet life in Tybee Island, the small Georgia beach town where he grew up, working on a stained glass window for the local church to replace one lost in a fire.

Upon arrival, Ronnie is miserable, hostile and defensive toward all those around her, including handsome, popular Will Blakelee - until, after both she and Will become involved in protecting a Loggerhead Sea Turtle nest, she discovers he is deeper than she believed. As Ronnie falls in love with Will, she also manages to bond with Steve through the one thing they have in common- music.

The Way Back Machine Returns To 1969 For NBC's Fall Promo

I've posted one of these in the past for CBS and for ABC, but as far as getting a good preview of new shows, this one is the best.  This is NBC's 1969 TV special designed to make viewers excited for the 1969-1970 NBC Television Network schedule. Shows promoted include: "My World.. And Welcome To It", "The Debbie Reynolds Show", "Then Came Bronson", "Bracken's World", "The Andy Williams Show", "The Bill Cosby Show" and "The Bold Ones". Most of these shows obviously cannot be uploaded, so this promo is the next best thing.  The show was hosted by NBC sports announcer Joe Garagiola and Today Show host Hugh Downs.

The Bold Ones was the show that, along with Burl Ives had Joseph Campanella, who accepted the role after being dropped from Mannix after the first season, when Joe Mannix left Intertect to go solo as a private investigator.   I was surprised to see that Michael Parks of Then Came Bronson is alive and well and performing in movies and TV quite often.  The Bill Cosby Show came years before The Cosby Show and was quite funny.  The Debbie Reynolds show also costarred Tom Bosley who of course later went on to be Mr. Cunningham on Happy Days.

Dahmer vs. Gacy - This Has To Be One Of The Most Sick Twisted Trailers I Have Ever Seen.

dahmer_vs_gacy-2

Whoever came up with this ideal for a movie must be one heck of a freak.  And since the writer is someone named Andrew J. Rausch, I guess he is the one.  Directing this piece of sheer lunacy is Ford Austin.

A secret government lab has been trying to create the ultimate killer using the DNA of infamous killers, but there’s one big problem: They’ve escaped! Bloody mayhem stretches across the United States as they go on the ultimate killing spree. Trying to stop the maniacal madness is Ringo, a hick warrior being trained by God, using only a shotgun and a bottle of whiskey. In his road trip to hell, he must first fight off his own demons, not to mention an army of Japanese ninjas! It all leads up to the ultimate showdown!

Among the cast in this film of hilarious carnage are Art LaFleur, Harland Williams, and Steven Adler.  The film is set for release on December 31 but whether that is in theaters or straight to DVD is something I'm not sure of.  Either way, watch for it, if you dare.

Rodney - The Blog-o-Rama Thanksgiving Show A Day

Thanksgiving!

 key_art_rodney

Rodney aired on ABC from September 2004 until June 2006 and starred stand-up comic Rodney Carrington.  The show's story revolves around the character Rodney Hamilton who wishes to leave his horrible job in Tulsa, Oklahoma to become a stand-up comedian.

In this Thanksgiving episode,  Rodney and his wife Trina (Jennifer Aspen) try for once to have just a small Thanksgiving dinner with no guests.  Of course, it wouldn't be funny unless

those plans were spoiled.  Country singer Mac Davis plays the father of Trina.  This episode aired on November 23, 2004.  Season one is available at Hulu.com.

Thanksgiving (United States)

Elly's First Date

This episode of The Beverly Hillbillies comes from the first season of the show and was their first Thanksgiving episode.  In this episode Elly meets Sonny Drysdale, stepson of banker Milburn Drysdale.  I never understood how he had the last name Drysdale if he was only a stepson.  Meanwhile, Jed and Granny make plans for their Thanksgiving dinner.  As always with the Hillbillies, this episode is hilarious.

Hilarious Christmas Video: Give The Jew Girl Toys

Sarah Silverman at the Tribeca Film Festival

Image via Wikipedia

Never one to back away from controversy, Sarah Silverman hits a bulls-eye with this Christmas

video called "Give The Jew Girl Toys".  Certainly more eye-opening than Adam Sandler's "Hanukkah"  song, I am sure this song insults Christians every where.  But watch it anyway. It was released I think way back in 2005, but this is the first time I ever heard of it.  Be warned though! The song begins with this line:

"I hate to say it Santa
But you're acting like a dick."
