Calvin and the Colonel - The Blog-o-Rama Thanksgiving Show A Day.

Thanksgiving Dinner

calv-5

Calvin and the Colonel was an animated series from 1961 about Montgomery J. Klaxon, a shrewd fox and Calvin T. Burnside, a dumb bear. Their lawyer was Oliver Wendell Clutch, who was a weasel. The colonel lived with his wife Maggie Belle and her sister Sue, who did not trust the colonel at all. Colonel Klaxon was in the real estate business, but always tried get-rich-quick-schemes with Calvin's unwitting help.

This show was an animated remake of Amos 'n' Andy [or, more or less, "Andy and The Kingfish"] and featured the voices of Freeman Gosden and Charles Correll from the radio series (in fact, several of the original radio scripts by Joe Connelly & Bob Mosher were adapted for this series).

Using animals avoided the touchy racial issues which had led to the downfall of Amos 'n' Andy.

Because of low ratings, the show was canceled after two months, but returned two months later to complete the first season contract. For a year afterward reruns were seen on Saturday mornings, and eventually syndicated through the 1960s. It was also adapted as a comic book by Dell Comics, and as such the first of two issues was the final installment in the company's extremely prolific (more than 1,300 issues published) Four Color anthology series.

A brief sequence from the show was seen on a television set in a 1966 episode of The Munsters ("A Visit From Johann"), which was also produced by Connelly & Mosher.  This episode is presented here in glorious black & white just as it originally aired on ABC.  The show finds Calvin and Family having to come up with Thanksgiving Dinner after inviting friends a year earlier, Calvin having been caught up in the spirit of the holiday and thinking that they would forget in a year's time.

Doogie Howser M.D. - The Blog-o-Rama Thanksgiving Show A Day

The Big Sleep...Not!

Doogie Howser, M.D. was a television comedy-drama starring Neil Patrick Harris as a brilliant doctor who also faces the problems of being a normal teenager. ABC aired the show from September 1989 to March 1993 for four seasons totaling 97 episodes.  Of course now we know Harris for his role on How I Met Your Mother, as well as his excellent stints this year as host of the Tony and Emmy Awards.

This of course was his first major role, and it was extremely funny.  Presented here is the Thanksgiving episode from season four.  As Thanksgiving approaches, Vinnie suffers from insomnia brought on by stress. Doogie fears that he is becoming a workaholic.

The role of Vinnie was played by Max Casella.   His parents were played by James Sikking and Belinda Montgomery.  The show was created by Stephen Bochco and David E. Kelley.

You can watch all 97 episodes at Hulu.com.  Click on their name to go there.

Adam Lambert's "For Your Entertainment" is every bit the boffo, glam-rock, disco-pop space oddity you'd expect from the "American Idol" standout. - The Detroit News

But if For Your Entertainment's material sometimes wears him rather than vice versa, he's still the belle of what turns out to be one heck of a glitter-pop ball. - Entertainment Weekly

The Beverly Hillbillies - The Blog-o-Rama Thanksgiving Show A Day.

The Beverly Hillbillies

Turkey Day!

If you don't know who or what The Beverly Hillbillies is, then you have never watched television.  One of the funniest television shows of the sixties, the Hillbillies was the story of a backwoods family known as the Clampett's, consisting of Jed, the matriarch, Granny, the mother-in-law, Elly May, the young beautiful daughter, and of course Jethro, the big idiot nephew.

The episodes involved how this family, who moved from the Ozarks to Beverly Hills at the insistence of their banker, Milburn Drysdale, who along with his assistant Jane Hathaway, catered to the Clampett's whims to ensure that they maintained their account in his bank.  The Clampett's came upon their fortune one day when Jed was hunting on his land, and struck oil when he missed.

This is the Thanksgiving episode which is in the public domain due to a CBS copyright screw up, (as are many of the episodes from seasons one and two).  The story involves a hand shaking turkey that is supposed to be the thanksgiving dinner, a billiard room, and a billiard, which isn't what you think.

You will laugh out loud when you watch this absolutely hilarious episode of The Beverly Hillbillies.  Because of copyright ownership of the theme song which did not slip into the public domain, you won't hear the familiar opening song, but some generic garbage that shows up on public domain DVD's of these episodes.

Not considered as classic as the Halloween and Christmas episodes, but funny never the less.

The Thanksgiving Story!

From season two of Daniel Boone comes "The Thanksgiving Story".  In this episode, Daniel and Jericho Jones are in a hurry to return to Boonesborough in time for Thanksgiving. They make it in time but then a messenger brings news that the Choctaws are on the warpath.

Oh my goodness!  What will happen?  I already know, but you can only find out by watching the latest 'Thanksgiving Show-a-Day' here at the Blog-o-Rama of ye olde Riesen2b!

<a href="http://www.joost.com/1850006/t/Daniel-Boone-The-Thanksgiving-Story-S02E10">Daniel Boone - The Thanksgiving Story-S02E10</a>

By the way, you can catch many more episodes of Daniel Boone, which starred the great Fess Parker himself (believe it or not, he is still alive and well and owns a winery in California), as well as Ed Ames, Patricia Blair, and Darby Hinton.

This great series aired from 1964-70.  If you have never seen the show and like adventure, then you may enjoy this.
