M. Night Shyamalan Will Try To End His String Of Turkeys With "The Last Airbender".

The official image of Aang. Removed pole due t...Image via Wikipedia

Watch The Teaser Trailer Here.
We all know the rut that Shyamalan has been in lately. It seems that his last few movies have all been DOA and that the critics have literally sliced him to pieces, so much in fact that I now find myself wanting to root for him to make a comeback with a big hit. Maybe his latest production, "The Last Airbender" will do just that. It's definitely different from anything else he has ever done, and judging by this teaser trailer, may be just what he needs to get his career back on track.

Avatar: The Last Airbender was an American animated
television series that aired for three seasons on Nickelodeon and the Nicktoons Network. The series was created and produced by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, who served as executive producers along with Aaron Ehasz.
The series followed the adventures of the main protagonist
Aang and his friends, who must save the world by defeating the Fire Lord and ending the destructive war with the Fire Nation.

Obviously there was a lot of respect and a large following for the television show and now Shyamalan must make sure he doesn't destroy the material he has been given. This time, I don't think he will. The film is scheduled to debut next year on July 2. With that release date, Paramount must be expecting this to be their Transformers for next year.

TrailerAddict.com gives this brief description about the film:
The story follows the adventures of Aang, a ten year old successor to a long line of Avatars, who must put his childhood ways aside and stop the Fire Nation from enslaving the Water, Earth and Air nations.

riesen2b's DVD Pick Of The Week

I thought it would be nice to start a new feature on the blog-o-rama by highlighting new or very recent DVD's that have come out or ones that I think are exceptional deals at Amazon.Com. These are my personal choices and I don't receive any compensation from Amazon for this article. However, if you happen to see anything you like, click on any of the banners and place an order I do get credit for that. With the feds looking at blogs to see what kind of payments/gifts people receive for writing articles from companies, I thought I should give full disclosure. This article is my idea, not Amazons.

My pick of the week is the second season of a series that most fans thought would never be released. I am talking about EVERWOOD. Season one was released way back in 2004, when the market wasn't as strong for TV collections as it is now. With week sales, the word from Warner Bros. was that no further seasons would be released. But, after five years, times change and now we have season two.

Photobucket
In this season you will see Kristin Bell play a cheerleader with ruptured breast implants, Nora Zehetner as coma-boy Colin’s alluring sister and Sarah Lancaster (sister of the title character on “Chuck”) joins the cast as hot college student Madison.

The DVD contains more than 40 minutes of deleted scenes, enough to fill a whole extra episode. I highly recommend this collection.

Here is a small clip from one episode of season two.

Retro Cartoons Are Hot At Joost.Com

Jet Fuel FormulaImage via Wikipedia

If you are a boomer like me, there are certain cartoons that you probably have fond memories of. Taking a browse through Joost.Com, I found some of my favorites and thought I would share a few episodes with you. If you want to see even more, as well as hundreds of movies and thousands of TV episodes, be sure and visit Joost.Com. Other websites which I really enjoy and search often for material are Hulu.Com, Fancast.Com, and Archive.Org. The latter one is a great sight for finding the really old public domain material, not just in videos, but audio recordings and written material as well.
Best of all? All of these sites are absolutely free.

G.I. Joe - "Cobra Stops The World"

COBRA uses a cloaking device to stop the world's oil supply.

Groovie Ghoulies - Episode One

Join the Groovie Goolies in another terrifying and humorous adventure, this time Count Drac shows the Goolies the Horrible Hall. While this isn't one that most people would put in their top ten list of cartoons, it is one that has always stuck in my mind, especially since it had Sabrina The Teenage Witch in it.

The Mr. Magoo Show - Episode One

Mr. Magoo was a snooty, incredibly near-sighted character who was constantly getting himself into comedic trouble due to his intense myopia and chronic stubborness. Despite his lack of vision, Magoo had been entrusted as the caretaker of his little nephew Waldo, who was always drawn in to his uncle's mishaps. I enjoyed this series so much when I was young that I bought the entire series a while back at Amazon.Com.

Rocky And Bullwinkle - Jet Fuel Formula

After a trip to the moon, Rocky and Bullwinkle return to earth with moonmen Gidney and Cloyd. The moonmen find themselves endangered, and seek Rocky and Bullwinkle's help in returning to the moon. One of the greatest cartoon series that ever aired on television. It was written as much for adults as for kids, although I didn't know that when I was a kid.

Fat Albert

Fat Albert, Weird Harold, Rudy, Dumb Donald, Russell, Bucky and Mushmouth share childhood experiences to which we can all relate. To the outside world, the place where they spend much of their time is a pile of junk. But to Fat Albert's gang, the junkyard becomes a magical playground filled with adventure, excitement and new discoveries. A great show that was tremendously funny while it attempted to teach something in each episode.

You will find many other animated series at the websites I mentioned including anime and newer series as well as the retro stuff that I like. Be sure and give them all a visit.
Here are some DVD sets of these shows that you can find at Amazon.

GI Joe: The Rise Of Cobra - Newest Trailer Crammed With Effects.

Destro from G.I. Joe: Sigma 6.Image via Wikipedia

I don't know if showing this many scenes from GI Joe is a good thing or a bad one. My observation on the whole thing is that the CGI generated images are sub-rate in that you can tell they are obviously just that. The realism just isn't there especially when you compare it to the newest Transformers, which comes out next week. I haven't read anything about the budget for Joe, but I have a sneaky suspicion that when compared to other blockbusters, this one was made relatively cheaply.

You may disagree with me, so watch the trailer and decide for yourself.

From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite G.I. Joe team uses the latest in next-generation spy and military equipment to fight the corrupt arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious Cobra organization to prevent them from plunging the world into chaos.

Among the stars of the film are Dennis Quaid, Channing Tatum, Rachel Nichols, Marlon Wayans, Christopher Eccleston, Sienna Miller, Jonathan Pryce, Adaewale Akinnuoye Agbaje

Perhaps A Forgotten Gem: Abbott & Costello's "The Noose Hangs High".

Actors Bud Abbott, Lou Costello and Lila Dean ...Image by James Herman via Flickr

This is one Abbott & Costello movie that frankly, I had never heard of until I happened to discover it at Hulu.Com. This film is full of old-fashioned fun and laughs in which Bud and Lou are window washers that are mistaken for messengers who are sent to collect $50,000 in cash by a gangster. The result leaves your ribs in stitches.

Wikipedia.Com gives this more detailed description:
Ted Higgins (Bud Abbott) and Tommy Hinchcliffe (Lou Costello) work for the Speedy Service Window Washing Company. They run into a bookie named Nick Craig (Joseph Calleia), who, after mistaking them for employees of the Speedy Messenger Service, sends them to Mr. Stewart's (Ben Weldon) office to collect $50,000 owed to him. But Stewart has plans of his own: he hires two thugs to rob Ted and Tommy of the money he has just paid. Tommy flees from the robbers and takes refuge in a room with a gaggle of women who are mailing face powder samples. He hides the money in an envelope and addresses it to Craig, but it is accidentally switched with an envelope containing a powder sample. Ted and Tommy return to Craig's office and explain what happened; they assure him that the cash will arrive in the mail the next day.
When face powder (instead of cash) arrives in the mail, an irate Craig gives Ted and Tommy 24 hours to return his money. The boys attempt to contact everyone on the mailing list until they finally locate the recipient, Carol (Cathy Downs), who informs them that she spent most of the money and has only about $2,000 left. The three of them go to the race track hoping to gamble the remaining cash to win enough money to pay back Craig. They encounter a strange fellow named Julius Caesar (Leon Errol), who claims to have never lost a bet. They refuse to follow his betting advice, only to see his horse win, and they are left with nothing. Ted, abandoning hope, decides that they would be safest in jail, so they run up a huge tab in a nightclub. Just as they are about to be arrested, Craig and his henchmen show up and demand the money. After Ted and Tommy reply that they do not have it, the thugs take them to a nearby construction warehouse and begin pouring cement in which to dump them. Meanwhile, Carol and Caesar have been sitting at the bar, betting large amounts on fish at the club's aquarium. Caesar loses and hands her the $50,000 that she has just won, to her amazement. It turns out Caesar is actually an eccentric millionaire named J.C. MacBride, and they all arrive at the warehouse in time to pay back Craig.

Enjoy the movie!

Who Will Be Metallo On Smallville Season Nine? Find Out Here!

Metallo as drawn by John Byrne in Superman v2 #1.Image via Wikipedia

It appears that the first two episodes of Smallville next season will not deal with Zod, as season eight's season finale would have led us to believe. Instead, according to TVGuide.com,
Brian Austin Green has been cast on Smallville as the DC Comics villain Metallo.

That's right — fresh off of his role on the cancelled Sarah Conner Chronicles, Green is now playing a cyborg himself. Green will appear as the kryptonite-powered villain (alter ego "Daily Planet" journo John Corben) in at least the first two episodes of Season 9, which premieres on it's new night, Friday, Sept. 25.

Green passed on the role of sports agent Clayton on One Tree Hill in order to take this role. Prior to that, Green had been attached to the CW pilot Body Politic, a series that wasn't picked up by the network.
Previously (see article below) Green had been campaigning to be the Green Lantern.
