Excellent Documentary: "Not Your Typical Bigfoot Movie".

When I was glancing through "The New York Times" on Friday, I was reading the movie reviews and I saw the name of Portsmouth, Ohio in one of the reviews.  A movie about Portsmouth?   You can read their review of the movie by clicking here.  I was surprised.  It opened yesterday.

I was interested in Portsmouth, Ohio mainly because that is where I grew up.  It's a relatively small town on the edge of the Ohio River where the Scioto River flows into it.

Portsmouth used to be a big industrial town but those days are long gone.  Unemployment and welfare run high there and most businesses are low paying service oriented jobs.  "Welcome to McDonald's. May I take your order?"

This movie is about two men from Portsmouth who are essentially Bigfoot hunters in their spare time.

The film provides a look at the trials and triumphs of life in the Appalachian foothills.  Through the experiences of Dallas and Wayne, you will see how the power of a dream can bring two men together in friendship and provide hope and meaning that transcends the harsh realities of life in a dying industrial town.

Dallas Gilbert and Wayne Burton are out to convince the world that Bigfoot exists.   They have amassed a vast library of video footage and still photographs after years of venturing into the woods and forests of Portsmouth to conduct their research.  They hope this material will prove the creatures existence and catapult them to wealth and fame.

Their appearance on the front page of a 1999 issue of "The Portsmouth Daily Times" served to spread the word throughout Ohio, but many skeptics remained.

After years of failed attempts to attract national attention to their work, Dallas convinces a high profile Bigfoot researcher from California to make a stop in Portsmouth to see his and Wayne's research locations during a national Bigfoot tour.  But a misstep by Wayne on an Internet radio talk show throws the future of their research and the strength of their friendship in doubt.

The California research team eventually shows up in Portsmouth, but the ensuing events leave Dallas and Wayne downtrodden.  In the aftermath, the two learn more about themselves, their friendship, and the fragile hope that sustains the American dream.

The film was directed by Jay Delaney, who originally comes from the Portsmouth area.

It all sounds very interesting, and the trailer is captivating as well.  Unfortunately for me and probably you as well, not too many films like this ever show in theaters in Las Vegas.  But hopefully either Sundance of IFC will pick it up and you'll someday be able to watch it there.  If you are among the few that have seen it, post a comment.

...And Speaking Of Movies About Dogs...

"Marley And Me" Trailer

Owen Wilson and Jennifer Anniston star in this film based on the bestselling book by John Grogan.  They play a couple who adopts the badly behaved but much-loved dog. Oscar-winner Alan Arkin costars in this comedy from director David Frankel.   What a great Christmas present this film is.  And it is scheduled to open on December 25, 2008.

When "Push" Comes To Shove, I'll Watch This New Trailer

Is it just me, or does Dakota Fanning look a lot like one of the Olsen twins in this trailer for the movie "Push", which comes out next February.  And another thing, I've read the following description on TrailerAddict.com, but this trailer still looks as confusing as one can get.  Just my observation.

A riveting action-thriller, Push burrows deep into the deadly world of psychic espionage where artificially enhanced paranormal operatives have the ability to move objects with their minds, see the future, create new realities and kill without ever touching their victims. Against this setting, a young man and a teenage girl take on a clandestine agency in a race against time that will determine the future of civilization.

The Haunting In Connecticut Trailer: Step Aside All Other True Story Horrors.

A movie trailer that makes you jump out of your seat.  That is what the trailer for "The Haunting In Connecticut", which is in the vein of true story horror movies like "The Amityville Horror", and "The Exorcist", did to me.  Genuinely creepy, it deals with another possessed house.  Things that I saw take place in this trailer, I've never seen before.  Watch it here for yourself and decide.

TrailerAddict gives the following description of the film:

In the tradition of such real-life horror movies as The Exorcist and The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Haunting in Connecticut tells the astounding true story of one family's supernatural ordeal. When Sara and Peter Campbell's son Matt is diagnosed with cancer, they uproot their family to Connecticut for his treatment. As the family settles into their new home, Matt grows increasingly disturbed by paranormal activity that seems to inhabit and possess the house. At a loss to help her frightened family, his mother turns to an enigmatic priest who appears to rid the house of its ghosts-- until the boy's condition takes a sudden and unexplained turn for the worse and their lives are put in grave danger.

This film is currently scheduled for release on January 19, 2009

Fresh from last night's TV premiere, here is the first episode of the Christian Slater duel role spy show "My Own Worst Enemy".

Episode one is called "Breakdown".   Henry Spivey's life is turned upside down when he discovers he has a split personality and a shared

It's a good show to watch after "Chuck" and "Heroes".  If you missed it last night, you can watch it here, thanks to Hulu.com.

Lethal Weapon 5 Reportedly DOA.

There is an interesting story on the LA Times website that has an interview with Director Richard Donner.  In the story Donner telles the reporter that Mel Gibson will not do a "Lethal Weapon 5" and that the project is dead.

You can read the entire article by reporter Geoff Boucher by clicking here.

Howard Out Cheadle In For Iron Man 2.

There has been a change in casting for "Iron Man 2", with Don Cheadle replacing Terrence Howard as Jim Rhodes.

In the movie, Howard played Jim Rhodes, Tony Stark's BFF and future armor-clad hero War Machine.

Marvel had no comment, but apparently the deal with Howard fell through over financial differences, among other reasons. Marvel, which had wanted to work with Cheadle, then decided to take the role in another direction and approached the actor, who is shooting Antoine Fuqua's "Brooklyn's Finest" with Richard Gere and Ethan Hawke.
You can expect Rhodes to play a larger role in the sequel.  Justin Theroux is writing the screenplay.
Jon Favreau is returning as director, as is Robert Downey Jr.  Gwyneth Paltrow also is expected to return.

Britney Spears "Womanizer" New Video Watch It Here.

Britney Spears introduced her new video of her single from her upcoming album "Circus".  The title of the song is "Womanizer" and shows a fit, trim, Spears in various scenes including a fully nude sauna scene (the naughty bits are not shown, sorry perverts).

It is still a great video to watch and to see Spears back to looking top notch.

The video made it's official debut on ABC's "20/20. The ABC version of the clip obscures her body with digitally added steam; the MTV version does not.  The video shown here is the MTV version.

On Z-100, a New York radio station, Spears said this about the song, "We know what you're up to.' It's about guys cheating on girls. It's a girl anthem.

"Dragonball" Watch The Teaser Trailer Here.

Based on The King Piccolo Saga, "Dragonball" is  also known as the Piccolo Daimaoh Saga.  It  is the penultimate saga from the anime Dragon Ball. It occurs after the Tien Shinhan Saga and precedes the Piccolo Junior Saga. It includes the battles between Goku and King Piccolo's sons, Goku's first encounter with the Samurai warrior, Yajirobe, Goku's quest to find the Holy Water, his final battle with young King Piccolo, and the birth of Piccolo Junior.

I really don't know if "Dragonball" is as popular now as it was a few years ago when my son was hooked on it.  It seemed like a big deal at the time.  But, no matter, 20th Century Fox has decided to make a live action movie about the anime series and as far as these kinds of films go it looks pretty good.  Watch the teaser trailer and judge for yourself.
