"The Haunting Of Molly Hartley" Another Halloween Opener

The trailer for this one looks downright scary.  Reminds me of a cross between Carrie, Rosemary's Baby, and maybe even a touch of The Exorcist for good measure.  I will probably go see this one before "Splinter".  Wonder who will win the battle of the box office?

Here is what this movie is about according to TrailerAddict.com:

Molly (Haley Bennett) is a seventeen-year-old girl who recently moved to a new town for a fresh start after her mother's terrifying psychotic break. While struggling to find her place amongst the cliques at her new private school, she becomes haunted by disturbing visions and voices that expose a dark secret from her past. Can she separate fact from fiction before it's too late?

If that description didn't exactly pique your interest, then maybe the trailer will.  Watch it and enjoy.

"Splinter" Opens On Halloween. Prepare To Scream

Halloween is always a good time for a cheesy horror flick and this one seems to fit the bill perfectly.

Looks like it's about a few people that are headed for a romantic weekend  when they are car-jacked.  They end up at a gas stop where they become trapped with all kinds of horror type things begin to happen.

Here's the trailer:

"Valkyrie", with Tom Cruise Bumped From Dismal January Release To Box Office Busting December 26.

There have been a lot of reports that this Bryan Singer (X-Men, Superman Returns) film was a loser.  Having it's release date change several times from this past summer to January '09 (usually considered a nail in the coffin as far as release dates are considered) only added fuel to the fire.

Funny how things change.  MGM/UA is so keen on this film now that they have moved the release date back up to the prime date of December 26 in hopes that the Oscars® will be favorable to them.  They now think they have a winner.  Looking at this trailer, make your own judgment about the picture.

TrailerAddict.com gives the following description of the film:

Superstar Tom Cruise heads an international cast as Col. Claus von Stauffenberg, the aristocratic German officer who led the heroic attempt to bring down the Nazi regime and end the war by planting a bomb in Hitler's bunker. The "July 20 Plot" on Hitler's life is one of the most heroic but least known episodes of World War Two. Severely wounded in combat, Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg returns from Africa to join the German Resistance and help create Operation Valkyrie, the complex plan that will allow a shadow government to replace Hitler's once he is dead. But fate and circumstance conspire to thrust Stauffenberg from one of many in the plot to a double-edged central role. Not only must he lead the coup and seize control of his nation's government... He must kill Hitler himself.

An Editorial Cartoon On The U.S. Financial Woes.

This is just a little drawing I did at work today in regards to the problems in the U.S. Financial Markets.  Could this be the near future?  You decide.  Kind of scary, isn't it?

How Notorious is "Notorious"? Movie To Open January '09.

If you knew me, and my disdain for gangsta rap, as well as biographies about dead celebrities, you would say that I have no interest in seeing this movie about the life of Notorious B.I.G.,  the rap singer who was gunned down not too long after Tupac Shakur.  I remember at the time it being rumored that BIG was in some way involved in the death of Shakur.  In this case I would have to say that the trailer on this one piqued my interest and that if I don't make it to the theater it will definitely be on my dvd list.

TrailerAddict.Com gives this description of the film:

Notorious is about the life of rapper Christopher Wallace a.k.a. The Notorious B.I.G. In just a few short years, The Notorious B.I.G. rose from the streets of Brooklyn to become one of the most influential hip hop artists of all time. B.I.G. was a gifted storyteller; his narratives about violent life on the streets were told with a gritty, objective realism that won him enormous respect and credibility. His stories were universal and gave a voice to his generation.

Besides the trailer, I remember thinking what a turkey several years ago "Selena", starring J-Lo would be and who would want to see a movie about a young dead Latina singer other than Latinos.   Of course, when I saw it (probably on HBO or the like), I found out that there is a lot going for these movies, and that would later include "Walk The Line", the movie about Johnny Cash.

The point is, just because it doesn't reflect your type of music or even the genre of films that you like, sometimes you can be pleasantly surprised.  I think that will be the case with "Notorious".

In The As If We Didn't Already Know Department.

What exactly makes this article newsworthy is beyond me.  But since every one else is always speculating on it, I decided to post this.

On the Dr. Drew and Stryker radio show, Lindsay Lohan admitted that she has been in a relationship with DJ Samantha Ronson for quite a while.

In the interview, Stryker catches Lindsay Lohan off-guard by asking how long she and Samantha had been going out.

Lindsay giggles and says "a very long time."

Click here to listen to the full interview.  Most of this clip is an interview with Samantha Ronson.  Lindsay comes on during about the last minute.

"Yes Man" Looks Kind Of Like "Liar Liar 2".

I saw an ad for Jim Carrey's new movie "Yes Man" last night and the first thing that popped into my head was that this is just a redo of "Liar Liar", except that instead of always having to tell the truth, he has to say yes to everything.  Watch this international trailer from  TrailerAddict.com and judge for yourself.

The film is about a man who spent six months "saying Yes where once would have said No", to make his life more interesting and positive. We get to see the tribulations and mischief that he got up to while he said yes to any question or proposal.

Studio: Warner Bros Pictures

Release: December 19, 2008

Director: Peyton Reed

Writer: Nicholas Stoller, Jarrad Paul, Andrew Mogel

Cast: Jim Carrey, Zooey Deschanel, Bradley Cooper, Rhys Darby, John Michael Higgins, Danny Masterson, Terence Stamp, Rocky Carroll

Watch Season 3 Premiere Of "Heroes" Here.

In case you missed it last night, and judging by what I read of the overnight ratings, many of you did, opting for the comedy lineup of CBS and the return of CSI: Miami (did you really think Horatio Caine was dead?) instead of the triumphant return of our heroic misfits, hulu.com has already posted last nights shows.

No telling how long they will have these episodes up (they take them down for a while and return them later), but if you come here soon enough and not a year from now, you can watch both episodes right here.

There is a lot going on as a season of villians opens and it's a thrill and surprise a minute.  Heroes seems to be back on track.

"Chuck" Returns To NBC September 29, But You Can Watch The Season Premiere Here And Now!

That's right friends, no need to wait around to find out what Chuck has been doing in the world of espionage for the last nine months.  NBC has already posted the season premiere on Hulu.Com and I have it right here.

You say you've never seen Chuck even though it comes on at 8 p.m.  on Mondays right before Heroes?  Well to fill you in, Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi) is a computer geek who is catapulted into a new career as the government's most vital secret agent. When Chuck opens an e-mail subliminally encoded with government secrets, he unwittingly downloads an entire server of sensitive data into his brain. Now, the fate of the world lies in the unlikely hands of a guy who works at a Buy More Electronics store. Instead of fighting computer viruses, he must now confront assassins and international terrorists. With the government's most precious secrets in Chuck's head, Major John Casey of the National Security Agency assumes the responsibility of protecting him. His partner is the CIA's top agent (and Chuck's first date in years), Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strzechowski). They'll try to keep him safe by trading in his pocket protector for a bulletproof vest. Also starring are Joshua Gomez  as Morgan, Chuck's best buddy, and Sarah Lancaster as Chuck's supportive sister, Ellie.

This episode is only available for five more days, so watch it before September 28 or you're going to have to wait to watch it on tv.

My Three Sons Arrives On DVD On September 30th! (But At What Cost?)

I have been waiting for this one to come out on DVD for quite a while, as have many others, I'm sure.  Well, in just eight short days it will be here.  And, if you preorder it at Amazon.com you can save about 13 bucks.  Order now and it's only $26.99!  Right now you can get to it by just clicking on the picture of it on the spinning carousel on the left.

I did notice that a lot of comments at the amazon page are of people who are, in a word, miffed at CBS/Paramount for doing what they are becoming good at and that is releasing these shows that people really want in half seasons but charging full dvd dollars.

That's one reason why if you insist on having it your best bet for now is to preorder at Amazon.  After that, who knows what it will shoot up to (suggested retail is 39.95).

Here is just one example of a commenter at Amazon that is not really happy with CBS/Paramount:

35 of 42 people found the following review helpful:

1.0 out of 5 stars CBS/PARAMOUNT - Truly An Evil Empire!, August 11, 2008

By
Glenn M. Schoditsch (Richmond, Virginia) - See all my reviews

Never in the relatively brief history of the DVD has there been such a prime example of a greedy, short sighted, narcissistic, indifferent QA/QC and downright mean spirited entity such as CBS/Paramount.
At a time when family income is stretched, CBS/Paramount dangles classic American TV treasures before the eyes of the very core fans of the product; baby boomer families (AND their greatest generation parents; those fortunate to have them still). The media offered? Exorbitantly priced half season sets, sets with music altered or completely replaced, grainy transfers full of artifactual trash, sets with edited footage & missing laugh tracks and so on.
We as consumers must enjoin CBS/Paramount to realize that the American consumer ever so hungry for the media offered will take just but so much abuse before "Just Saying NO"!
This offering of My Three Sons: Season One, Vol. 1, (a perfect classic American TV treasure) at ~$2.22 per a 25 minute episode is a direct finger in the eye of a huge consumer demographic. CBS/Paramount, I know you have heard our voices; but you don't care enough to be listen!

With that being said, decide for yourself.  As for me, I've gone ahead and ordered it anyway.

Googlephone To Be Unveiled By T-Mobile On September 23.

PhotobucketI don't post very often on technical hardware items, but this story caught my fancy. According to Wired.com T-Mobile has sent out invitations for the official announcementPhotobucket of the first Googlephone, the HTC Dream. Although the Android-based phone won't hit stores until October (probably October 20th), the press conference will be held in New York on September 23rd.

Wired.Com had the following to say about the HTC Dream:

We haved mixed feelings about Android. The Dream looks excellent, and from a geek's point of view, the open nature of the platform is very attractive. But as with the iPod before, the general consumer will go for the prettiness and ease of use. If Google and its Androidal partners don't manage to make a big splash very soon (read: great ad campaign) then we can see the consumer market for smartphones being tied up in the same way as the consumer market for MP3 players.

And here is a video that someone posted on YouTube of a Google Android demo at Google Developers Day on September 16, 2008, in London.

So, you are probably wondering what will make this give Apple's i-phone a run for their money? For one thing, whereas many Apple apps cost money (typically anywhere from $.99 to $9.99), at launch all Android Market apps will be free.

According to Time.Com:

That includes BreadCrumbz, a picture-based navigation program that doesn't just give you a drawing of your route, but also includes real-world photos to keep you on track. Another interesting app, TuneWiki, is a tricked-out music player that encourages mobile karaoke, by synchronizing written lyrics onscreen to the song's YouTube video. It also shows you what songs other TuneWiki users near you are listening to in real time. Since Android is better than the iPhone at running multiple programs at once, you won't have to choose between apps: As Breadcrumbz helps you find your way to a party, TuneWiki can play your favorite Rihanna video and get you in a groovy mood. When it's time to make a right turn, Breadcrumbz will cut in and alert you.

Many of the other features you will find on this phone will be equal if not better than the i-phone.Photobucket Some of these features include built-in GPS, a tilt sensor for gaming, and a camera. Also, we all know what a terrible 3G network AT&T has. -Mobile recently expanded coverage for its 3G data network to 27 major cities. The faster bandwidth promises to make watching videos and downloading websites go smoothly (but be cautious about that claim because AT&T promised the same thing and it just isn't happening).Photobucket
One negative that I know of. For all who buy a phone to show off it's looks, don't expect this one to be as glamorous and shiny as the i-phone.

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway Launches September 23.

Are you ready to take a nostalgic trip to 1944?  Then skip this game pal because with Brothers In Arms HH you're heading smack dab into the gut wrenching battle of WWII.    PC GAMER is already calling this the best looking WWII game ever made.  IGN.Com says that this game is a WWII game the likes of which you've never seen.  And judging by this launch trailer, I think I'm going to have to believe them.  This trailer is pretty intense, pretty gory, and totally worth watching.

Brothers In Arms: Hell's Highway will be the 3rd entry in the Brothers in Arms series of video games. It will see players reprise the role of Sergeant Matt Baker, a soldier of the 101st Airborne Division, during

Operation Market Garden in the late stages of World War II. Gearbox has set its sights on a March 2007 release on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game has many new features, including the ability to command a further squad, from a selection of new specialized units (Bazooka Teams, Machine Guns teams, Mortar Teams, as well as Radio Teams with which to call in artillery support). The game uses a unique first person perspective, in which the camera is placed within the head of a third person model.

A few more interesting details about the game:

  • Brothers In Arms Hell's Highway - Next Generation: The classic authentic, squad-based combat series explodes on next-generation hardware, offering unprecedented graphics and features.
  • New Story, New Setting: Follow Matt Baker, Joe Hartsock and the rest of the 101st Airborne Division in "Operation Market-Garden" as they fight to open famous "Hell's Highway" in a daring bid for a quick end to the war.
  • Live the life of an Enlisted Man: Get orders from HQ, go on patrol, spot the enemy and set up a devastating ambush. For the first time, finding the enemy before they find you is part of the challenge.
  • Unprecedented Character Design: Lifelike characters look, talk, move and think with incredible realism. Game characters interact with the player and each other like true brothers in arms, trading ammunition, helping wounded allies and civilians, working together to man team-operated weapons, and more.
  • Rich Cinematic Experience: As the squad leader, you interact with and get to know your brothers. Each character has his own personality, unique story and background, and grows through the game.
  • Powerful New Units Under Your Command: Players can use or command combined arms teams - machine gun crews create intense fire, bazooka crews destroy buildings and tanks, and mortar crews pound the enemy from a distance.
  • Step Into the Boots of a Soldier: Hit the dirt and get prone, rip grenades from your chest and hurl them at your enemies. See and feel the blast of nearby explosions.
  • Completely New Multiplayer Experience: Fight major multiplayer battles with dozens of players on each side; all the intensity and accessibility of Deathmatch meshed with the squad-based gameplay that helped make Brothers In Arms famous.
  • Destroyable Cover: Keep your men moving and choose your cover wisely - simulated with real physics, weapons will damage, dent, scorch and destroy the world around you.

Remake of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang In Works.

I can't say that "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", was ever in the top 20 of my favorite movies when I was a kid.  I remember thinking that it was going to be another "Mary Poppins", type film especially since it starred Dick Van Dyke.  What I remember most about this movie as a kid, and even now, is how long it is.  The wonder and joy I felt with Disney movies back then, certainly didn't apply to this dud.  Well now, according to IMDb®, a remake of this film is in the works. Well now, isn't that just truly scrumptious!  According to IMDb®:

Classic movie-musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is reportedly set to head back to the big screen in a new film.

The 1968 picture starred Dick Van Dyke and was based on a novel by James Bond creator Ian Fleming.

And Michael G. Wilson, who owns the rights to Fleming's story, has revealed that he is in talks to create a new version of the movie.

He says, "There may be a new film of Chitty, we will have to see."

In 2002 the movie was turned into a highly successful stage show by Bond producer Barbara Broccoli.

Well hopefully, if this is made, it won't be a hackneyed, overwrought bore of a movie as the original.  Amazing how the trailer makes it look like so much more than it is.  I will say that the car was pretty cool and was definitely the real star of the movie.

Fringe: Watch Episode Two Here

The new J.J. Abrams show "Fringe", continued with it's thrills and intensity in the second episode, shown Tuesdays on Fox.  In this episode, a woman conceives, carries to full-term and births a baby in the span of hours.  If you haven't seen the first episode, you can watch it on my site by clicking here.

Even if you haven't seen it, you can jump right in and watch the second episode now.  The title of this episode is, "The Same Old Story".

The look on this woman's face tells you everything you need to know about whether or not you'll be on the edge of your seat.

New episodes of Fringe can be seen Tuesday nights on Fox, right after everybody's favorite doctor show, House.

Sunday Afternoon Matinee Theater:

From 1946 here is a seldom seen but classic Orson Welles film.  I saw this once halfway through on TCM (Turner Classic Movies) and was overjoyed to see it on Hulu.com so that I could watch it from the beginning.  Now, thanks to Hulu, you can enjoy it right here at the Blog-o-rama!

College professor Charles Rankin (Welles) lives in a quiet Connecticut town with his wife Mary (Young). Little does his wife and his neighbors know, Rankin is actually notorious Nazi war criminal Franz Kindler. But his true identity may be revealed when mild-mannered war crimes commissioner Wilson (Robinson) arrives, posing as an antiques dealer.

An All Star Cast! So, "What Just Happened?"

Here's hoping that Robert De Niro can rebound from his latest stinker (Righteous Kill) with his next movie, "What Just Happened", coming out on October 3. De Niro returns to comedy in this film with an all star cast that includes Bruce Willis and Sean Penn.

What Just Happened is a satirical comedy about two nail-biting, back-stabbing, roller-coaster weeks in the life of Ben, a middle aged Hollywood producer trying to juggle his work and private life in tinsel town.

Ben is already in over his head trying to balance the tug-of-war of having two ex-wives and two different families with his latest business venture – the boldly “visionary” movie Fiercely starring Sean Penn, when everything that can go wrong, does go wrong.

Fiercely looks like it is going to be an audience-offending flop which the hard nosed studio chief Lou, insists will only see the light day if Ben convinces drug-addled director Jeremy to re cut the finished product.

Meanwhile in his private life, he can’t stop thinking about his ex, Kelly, is shocked by his daughter Zoe in her readiness to grow up and infuriated with his friend Scott, who’s not only trying to make a deal with him but is also making moves on his former wife.

On his next project he’s trying to deal with the artistic temperament of his leading man Bruce Willis, while receiving no support from Bruce Willis’ spineless agent Dick.

Somehow amidst the madness, treachery, deceit, huge egos and personal politics behind-the-scenes in Hollywood, Ben has to find a way not just to Cannes with a finished film, but to cope and keep his sanity.
