Quantum of Solace continues the high octane adventures of James Bond in Casino Royale. Betrayed by Vesper, the woman he loved, 007 fights the urge to make his latest mission personal. Pursuing his determination to uncover the truth, Bond and M interrogate Mr White who reveals the organisation which blackmailed Vesper is far more complex and dangerous than anyone had imagined.

Forensic intelligence links an MI6 traitor to a bank account in Haiti where a case of mistaken identity introduces Bond to the beautiful but feisty Camille, a woman who has her own vendetta. Camille leads Bond straight to Dominic Greene, a ruthless business man and major force within the mysterious organisation, Quantum.

On a mission that leads him to Austria, Italy and South America, Bond discovers that Greene, conspiring to take total control of one of the worlds most important natural resources, is forging a deal with the exiled General Medrano. Using his associates in the organisation, and manipulating his powerful contacts within the CIA and the British government, Greene promises to overthrow the existing regime in a Latin American country, giving the General control of the country in exchange for a seemingly barren piece of land. which is however a main source of the South American water supply. In a minefield of treachery, murder and deceit, Bond allies with old friends in a battle to uncover the truth. As he gets closer to finding the man responsible for the betrayal of Vesper, 007 must keep one step ahead of the CIA, the terrorists and even M, to unravel Greenes sinister plan and stop Quantum getting its way.
Bond 22 looks like an action packed romp. Trailer B is much better than the first trailer that was released.

Gary Coleman: The Man Who Just Can't Stay Out Of The News

Before I go into detail about what exactly this post is about, I want to give a tip of the hat for Gary Coleman.  Why?  Well, you see, I last posted an article about Gary way back on July 31, 2007 during another headlining incident in Provo, Utah.

Back then the gist of the story was this:

One of Utah County's more famous transplants has run afoul of the law.
Provo police cited actor Gary Coleman for disorderly conduct after witnesses said they saw him having a heated discussion with a woman last Friday evening.
Passers-by told police Coleman's temper was rising and he was hitting the steering wheel of his vehicle. The witnesses were concerned and called police.
When officers arrived, Coleman, known for his role in the TV series "Diff'rent Strokes," calmed down. He was issued a misdemeanor citation for disorderly conduct.
Coleman moved to Santaquin in 2005, around the time he starred in "Church Ball" an LDS-genre movie filmed in Utah County.

It isn't so much the article that is relevant to me as the picture (seen above) that was posted along with the article.  This picture accounts for more than half of the visitors that come to my page when they are doing image searches on Google.  Not just when he is in the news, but always.  And now, I've noticed that with this latest story that has come out of Provo, the web seekers are really eager to get this picture in their hands.  So thanks again Gary!

Now about the latest news.  It seems that this time sweet, kind-hearted, even tempered Gary got into an argument with a person and then tried to run him over.  As reported by the DESERET NEWS:

It's hard to investigate an auto-pedestrian accident when not even the victim will tell police what happened.

But Payson police filed a report Monday with the city attorney anyway, citing what they know about a Saturday night run-in between former TV child actor Gary Coleman and a shutter-happy 24-year-old man.

"The officer completed his investigation as far as he can, but he's still missing some key statements (about) the situation, not the least (being) Gary Coleman's and also the pedestrian's, Colt Rushton," said Payson Police Lt. Bill Wright. "They've not wanted to talk to us. We're a little bit (stuck) in what we've got."

Police say Coleman, 40, of Santaquin, had been arguing with Rushton at South County Lanes bowling alley, 112 W. 900 North, Saturday around midnight.

Police say Coleman — who earned fame with his role as Arnold Jackson in the TV show "Diff'rent Strokes" and moved to Utah shortly

after filming "Church Ball" here — was angry because Rushton had taken his picture while they were inside.

"We do know this situation evolved over wanting to have pictures of (Coleman)," Wright said. "So we (assume) he must be a fan.

Trick R' Treat Commences On Halloween.

Everyone knows what 'trick r' treat' is all about, don't they?  Well, in this case it's not going door to door and begging for candy.  Rather, it's a new horror movie that will be in your friendly ghostly theater on October 31, 2008.  In other words on Halloween.

One interesting thing to note about this film is that it will have been sitting on the shelf for over a year by the time it is released.   Produced by Bryan Singer and written and directed by Michael Dougherty ("Superman Returns," "X2: X-Men United"),  "Trick 'r Treat" is four interwoven stories that take place on Halloween with such characters as a staid high school principal who is a Halloween serial killer, a college-age virgin seeking that special guy, a woman who hates dressing up for Halloween and whose husband is obsession with the holiday and a group of young teens who pull a cruel prank.

Another interesting thing about this film is that one of the actresses in it is none other than Anna Paquin, currently starring in the new HBO vampire series "True Blood".

I was cruising through a lot of articles on the Internet to try and find out why this film has been held up.   Mainly, what I found out was that Warner Brothers, for whatever reason have been the reason for this films holdup.  It has been scheduled to be release a couple of other times besides last October.  And, according to most of the articles I have read, it will only be in a couple of theaters and will then be a straight to video release.  There is quite a bit of interest floating around for this movie across the blogosphere for those who like horror movies, and especially for those who follow Bryan Singer.  We'll all just have to wait and see for ourselves, but in the meantime, here's the trailer for it.  And interestingly, it looks like a chiller diller.

Britney's VMA Comeback

Last night at MTV's Video Music Awards, which were held inside the Paramount Studios backlot, Britney Spears made the memory of last years train wreck at the awards show that was held in Las Vegas, seem almost like a fade, distant memory.

Although she didn't do a singing performance, she did do a preshow sketch and then announced the opening of the awards show. She was also the top winner with three moonmen. This was the first wins ever for Britney. As far as her looks and her manner, it seemed like the old Britney was back. It really was great to see her looking and acting so well once again.

Here is a wrapup of the awards show as reported by Michael Buckley at BuckHollywood.com.

Meet Sarah Palin's Father As He Discusses Family's Religious Background

I don't know if the news organization are trying to make it into more non-news, but CNN did an article on Sarah Palin's Pentecostal background. According to CNN, the McCain campaign is afraid some people will be turned off by this information, and have thus avoided the topic. Pentecostal's are noted for "talking in tongues" during church services, and a strong belief in faith healing. At any rate, I myself could care less. I'm posting this video so that you can get a look at the man behind the Vice-Presidential candidate.

On Cancer: Chemo Is Over, Tests Show A Cancer Victory.

Tyler_and_Emma It's been a while since I gave everyone an update on my wife Emma's cancer.  It's been two weeks since her last chemo treatment and today was her first visit to the oncologist since then.  She received very good news.

According to her doctor, her blood tests show that she is now cancer free.  He started her on a drug called TAMOXIFEN, which she will have to take twice a day for the next five years.  It's a drug that adjusts a woman's hormones when their breast cancer was of a type that can be affected by their hormones.

What specifically is TAMOXIFEN?

This description comes from the National Cancer Institute:

Tamoxifen (Nolvadex®) is a drug, taken orally as a tablet, which interferes with the activity of estrogen, a female hormone. Estrogen can promote the development of cancer in the breast. Tamoxifen is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention of breast cancer and for the treatment of breast cancer, as well as other types of cancer.

Tamoxifen has been used for more than 30 years to treat breast cancer in women and men. Tamoxifen is used to treat patients with early-stage breast tamoxifen-breast-cancer[1]cancer, as well as those with metastatic breast cancer (cancer that has spread to other parts of the body). As adjuvant therapy  (treatment given after the primary treatment to increase the chances of a cure), tamoxifen helps prevent the original breast cancer from returning and also helps prevent the development of new cancers in the other breast. As treatment for metastatic breast cancer, the drug slows or stops the growth of cancer cells that are present in the body.

Tamoxifen has been used for almost 10 years to reduce the risk of breast cancer in women who are at increased risk of developing breast cancer. Tamoxifen is also used to treat women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a noninvasive condition that sometimes leads to invasive breast cancer.

The doctor explained that some of the side effects of TAMOXIFEN are blood clots, strokes, uterine cancer, hot flashes, weight gain, and cataracts.  Emma was less than enthusiastic to hear the part about weight gain and hot flashes.  She is especially concerned about the hot flashes as she has already been experiencing those for quite some time.

So now, it's just a matter of following up every three months (her next appointment is in December), having regular pap smears to check for uterine cancer, and basically letting life return to normal for now.

Eventually, she will see a surgeon about reconstructive surgery, but for now our main concern will be to get our financial quagmire back in order and stand back on solid ground.  But for whatever problems we may have, we are just thankful that Emma is now CANCER FREE!

One final note.  Thank you to everyone who helped us through this difficult time with their love, support, and prayers.  It really makes things better.

The Best In Fall Entertainment

Time.com has posted what they consider to be some of the highlights in entertainment this fall, from film, to television, from sports to books.

Here is a look at just a few of the more interesting selections chosen by the critics of Time.

Having premiered last weekend on HBO, their first pick is a new show by Alan Ball, the creator behind the past hit "Six Feet Under", which dealt with the lives of a family that operated a funeral home.   Well, instead of dealing with the dead, as in that program, the new show deals with the undead (as in vampires) and is called "True Blood".

"True Blood" is what you might call a southern gothic vampire love story, most notable for starring the wonderful Academy Award winner Anna Paquin (The Piano) as a waitress named Sookie, who meets a handsome vampire and then becomes entangled in a murder mystery.

Having scanned several articles and reading quite a few newspapers, the initial reviews have been relatively mixed, but most agree that the show holds promise and could improve in future episodes.  I think however, that vampires, sex, and murder along with lots of blood is probably a perfect recipe for success.  You can watch "True Blood" Sundays at 9 on HBO.  Of course with HBO, if you check your TV listings, it will probably be playing at other times throughout the week.

In entertainment, it probably doesn't get any stranger than the next one.  Having it's premiere on September 7 at the Los Angeles Opera is filmaker David Cronenberg's 1986 sci-fi classic, "The Fly".

Hard to believe, but this film is now an opera, with a libretto by David Henry Hwang and a score by Oscar-winner Howard Shore, composer of the music for Lord of the Rings.  According to Time, Cronenberg says it is ""about something that happens to everybody, which is aging and ultimately death. So it has this universal potency underneath the sci-fi trappings."  I actually haven't read anything on this opera, but having originally opened in London, and arriving in Los Angeles, it must have some merit.  At the very least, it must be something that would maintain my interest, as long as the songs aren't sung in Italian.  If anyone knows more about this please post a comment or send me an email.

Over at Fox Studios, when you have a box office flop for what at one time was a very popular television show (The X Files: I Want To Believe), what do you do?  Well, to me it looks like they have updated the show, given it a new title and new characters, hired the hot right now J.J. Abrams (Lost, Alias) to create the show, and placed it on the fall network.  And surprisingly, this show, which is titled "Fringe",  is generating a lot of buzz on the internet, as well as in news articles, and could very well end up being the standout hit of the fall season.

One of the main differences between this show and "The X Files", is that where the X Files centered on aliens, "Fringe" centers on government and corporate bioscience.  Time gives the following synopsis:

FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) is called in to investigate a suspected instance of bioterrorism: an airliner has landed in Boston with everyone on board dead of a flesh-melting virus.  To assist her, she finds Walter Bishop (John Noble), an institutionalized scientist who once conducted military research in "fringe science" — bio warfare, teleportation and reanimation, with a side of parapsychology. Working with Walter and his black-sheep genius son Peter (Joshua Jackson), she discovers that the incident is part of a chain of events called "The Pattern." Someone is conducting massive, Frankensteinian experiments around the world — with us as the guinea pigs.

Sound interesting?  If it does you can catch it beginning September 9 at 8 p.m. on your local Fox television station.

From TV we move on to Broadway.  And what could be more interesting than seeing Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe, strip on the stage in the revival of "Equus", which he played previously onstage in London.  Daniel Radcliffe, the fast-growing-up star of the Harry Potter movies, launches his post-Hogwarts career playing the stable boy who has committed a horrific crime of violence. Richard Griffiths (another Harry Potter alum and Tony winner for The History Boys) is the psychiatrist who tries to find out why.  Viewers of preview showings for "Equus", have given high praise to Radcliffe, both in performance and in his appearance.  Figure that one out for yourself.  The actual premiere of "Equus" is on September 25 on the Great White Way.

Christian Slater's "My Own Worst Enemy" Shows Promise.

Christian Slater stars as both Henry Spivey and Edward Albright in this new series that arrives on NBC in October.  Looks like a great addition to the lineup that includes "Chuck" and "Heroes" on that night.

First of all, with Christian Slater it should be a can't miss, although time and time again tv series have shown that isn't always the case with well established stars.  But, in this one, the premise for this show is pretty interesting.  According to the official web page for "My Own Worst Enemy", this series is about the following:

It is a show that raises the question, "Who can you trust when you can't trust yourself?"  Henry (Slater) is a middle-class efficiency expert living a humdrum life in the suburbs with his family.   Edward (also Slater) is an operative who speaks nine languages, runs a four minute mile, and is trained to kill.  Albright works at Janus Headquarters for Marvis Heller (Alfre Woodard), a tough woman with a hidden compassionate side.

Henry and Edward are polar opposites who share only one thing in common - the same body.  When the carefully constructed wall between them breaks down, Henry and Edward are thrust into unfamiliar territory where each man is dangerously out of his element.

Mike O' Malley and Saffron Brown also are part of the cast.  O' Malley plays a sadistic and violent secret agent and Brown plays the psychologist who knows what is going on with Slater's dual identities.

I know I will definitely be adding this to my DVR list and can't wait to see it.  In the meantime, enjoy these short clips.

Trailer For "Soul Men": Final Film Of Bernie Mac & Isaac Hayes

The trailer for Soul Men, which is the last film of the late Bernie Mac and Grammy Winner Isaac Hayes. The film follows two estranged singing legends (Samuel L. Jackson and Bernie Mac) from the band The Real Deal who agree to participate in a reunion performance even though it has been close to 20 years since they last spoke.

As they travel cross country in a series of adventures and misadventures, they air old grievances about thirty year old betrayals and learn that the music is still in them.  This film is scheduled for release on November 7, 2008.  I always liked Bernie Mac and I hope his final film is one that will be remembered as being a good one.  Would hate to see him and Isaac Hayes wind up in a turkey.

Download Michael Moore's "Slacker Uprising" Free

The trailer for Michael Moore's Slacker Uprising also known as "Captain Mike Across America". The film will actually be available for download on September 23rd. Michael goes around speaking to the youth of America and tries to get a large voter turnout.
"This is being done entirely as a gift to my fans. The only return any of us are hoping for is the largest turnout of young voters ever at the polls in November." – Michael Moore

You can get more information at SlackerUprising.Com.  You have to sign up in order to get the free download.  Hopefully it will get people off of their couch potato butts and make them vote in November.  In the meantime, watch the trailer.
